Owner description: The Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington engages audiences in the powerful experience of artistic invention and serves as a catalyst for the creation of new work that inspires and challenges.

The Henry Gallery is what a university art museum should be. The exhibits we saw were intellectually stimulating and represented excellent contemporary art. We really enjoyed an exhibit of photography challenging ones conception of beauty, "Out [o] Fashion Photography: Embracing Beauty". Another exhibit "Now Here is also Nowhere" left us a bit confused, but in a good way with lots of questions that needed answering. A Sean Scully exhibit deftly illustrated how photographs could inspire painting. Definitely a first class contemporary art museum worthy of the University of Washington.

The Henry is by far the most representative of modern, youthful, conceptual art in Seattle. If they have a reception, opening or event listed- by all means try and make it. This is the prime place for 'art meets dance' party events.
Well worth the trip to the U-district.

If my out of town visitors have time to go to only one of Seattle's attractions I bring them to the Henry Art Gallery. The galleries always hold secret treasure and the programming is among the most innovative in the Pacific Northwest.

It is a great place to go on a date as it's open airy feel is really romance-y. It's a great inspiration station in the middle of the work day too! Just last week, I had my Parisian intern meet me there so we could look at the William Kentridge and Ann Lislegaard shows. It is a great place for Staycationers as it is always changing . . . come for a short visit to get excited about Seattle all over again. Definitely bring a note pad as you will have lots of good ideas to jot down!

Situated comfortably off of Campus Parkway right on UW school grounds, this museum has always been a favorite of mine. It's unique and strange contemporary exhibitions have always caught my eye. I love walking through each gallery and spending countless minutes staring at a room filled with plastic dolls or a mobile made entirely out of pencils and erasers. The art is raw and daring, it evokes such truth from a young and vibrant generation. To take what nobody would think could be art and give it an artistic definition is exactly what art is all about. I will continue to visit the Henry and I can't wait to see what the artists have ready to present next!
