The Arboretum has such a nice feel to it, and that alone separates it from other outdoor recreational areas. The Japanese Gardens, even though you have to pay for entering, are completely worth it! It is very well manicured, and quite traditional. While on many walks/rides through the Arboretum you are surrounded by contentment... Smiling people sun bathing while the kids play in the water, families of well-fed raccoon patrol the area in plain sight, wild flowers and song birds everywhere... Truly a magical place.

My husband and I spent my birthday at the Japanese Garden in the Arboretum. It is a very special place. But you can stroll the arboretum gardens at any time. Come see the Polonia tree and the Chilean fire tree in bloom. The experience will change your life!

...and a wonderful walking setting. The visitor center personnel were very helpful and the arboretum has significant species that are worth seeing. It also has easy access by bus,

Average if you have been to others. Fall and spring are the best times to go. Combine with a canoe ride rented from the UW aquatic center
