We drove all around the park even though the signs said authorized vehicles only, it was very pretty and the signs are dumb. They refer to a treatment facility at the very end of the road, not the entire road. We would have gotten out and done some more significant hiking because it seams like a good place for that, but having travelled all day, were ok taking it easy. We wanted to get out to the West Point Lighthouse, but all the signs say special permit parking or no parking. If you read between the lines, its ok to park after 4pm. So we did and then we walked along the shore up to the lighthouse. Mt. Rainer in the background makes for a pretty sight.

The walk was pleasant but better sign boards will be better. There were quite some visitors when I was walking and that helped to compensate for the bad signboards. The beach was beautiful!!! One of the nicer beach I have seen. Ideal place to relax and enjoy the sea breeze.

Oh nostalgia--those days when I was in the military, this was Fort Lawton, a few buildings survive of that era, more remembered as ghosts which no longer exist. Great natural park, large, views, Puget Sound, the Olympics, Ballard, north to Edmonds. Worth the trek to the Magnolia District to check out his park.

We stayed right in Magnolia but were hesitant to go here after 5:00.
The abandoned military complex does look appealing. We did not go any further .

Views of the sound can't be beat. You have to be willing to walk a bit, about 20 minutes up and down stairs. Park at the south end and head west. The trails are level and even paved until you get to the bluffs. Then it is down hill from there :-)

Walk along the water on a paved path or down to the beach, scramble around the rocks by the lighthouse and keep your eyes peeled for a baby seal. (Rare and only in summer months). One of my favorite walks in Seattle, stop in Magnolia (neighborhood for a coffee or drink.) If you're hungry, Szamnias is good German Fusion food.
