Owner description: This national park is really a free museum that documents Seattle history, from the fire that burned it down to the gold rush that helped build it up.

This is in a corner on Pioneer Square...more of a museum than a park. We requested the movie on the gold rush as soon as we entered. They led us to a small auditorium and then played the 30 minute or so movie---fascinating....and especially so, since I just happened to have watched the movie, White Fang,
(which I recommend you do.)

Then, we walked around the museum space and checked out the various exhibits. I loved all of it.
The place is clean; bathroom are clean, and this museum is free!

What would you do for a Klondike Bar?

How about a Klondike Museum?

"Huh," you say?

Actually, this free little museum is worth a visit. There are a lot of exhibits on two floors that really give you a sense of what Seattle must have been like when all those wide-eyed settlers from the east swooped in upon the city to stock up on supplies on their way to find their fortunes in Alaska. You really get a sense of the hardships they faced, and how the vast majority came away disappointed in their dream quest to gain sudden riches.

It's why we have "bubbles" today.

More than that, it helps us appreciate how great we have it with our modern heating and electricity. The ferocious cold and unbearably long periods of darkness (and times of unending daylight).

But most of all, the Klondike Gold Rush Museum provides some memorable reminders that people who stick with their plan fortuitously and don't give up may end up actually getting the wealth that most people think should come easy.

While there, stop to watch the 30-minute film.

Do not miss this little museum. You'll learn a lot about the Klondike Gold Rush - that is, the difficulty of getting there. It's mind-boggling. The film is very good and the iconic picture of the line of people climbing the mountain - just so hard to comprehend.

Not a big history buff, so wasnt sure about this place, but it was free so we stopped in. Exhibits were okay, but we really liked the 30 min film they show periodically. Pretty interesting.
