“Old apartment block with a tacky renovation”
Reviewed August 16, 2009

Photos look nice on the website but dont be fooled this is an old apartment block given a tacky and wacky renovation - booked a spa room and the spa didnt work, plumbing problems had to get toilet unblocked twice - very small room and bathroom. I think there was a wedding going on one night and we had to park way over at the credit union and didnt feel safe leaving the car there and then the breakfast room just doesnt have the capacity to cope with a full hotel - overcrowded, no tables or chairs avaliable, messy and goods not replenished.
Some of the front desk staff are the most shocking ive come across - truly unprofessional and lack of knowledge on the other hand, there were a couple that were helpful.
Dont ever bother emailing them as you will be waiting a week for a reply - thats even if you get a reply.
Waited over 1/2 an hour on 2 occasions for the hotel shuttle - not good enough when you have to book in advance and reserve your seats for the scheduled shuttle.
We often stay at Hyatt Summerfield Suites and thought this hotel maybe similar - obviously not.

First, let me thank you for staying with us. I apologize that you were not totally satisfied with your stay. Our hotel does strive to set itself apart and one way we have done that is through our extensive renovations shaping our motto “Uniquely Retro, Refreshingly Modern”. I do take full responsibility for the shuttle capacity problem. We have a hard time saying “no” to our guests and did fall behind during your stay with an overwhelming demand for our shuttles. Regarding the breakfast, we feel that we have built one of the best free hotel breakfasts around. The room usually clears pretty fast, but we do encourage our guests to use our beautiful lobby or sit next to our atrium style windows as an alternative. We do have staff 24hrs a day on duty to address any issues in the rooms to reduce any interruption to your stay and hope we were able to fix the issue quickly. I am very concerned that our communication broke down during the email process and your comments regarding our staff. I thank you for your time in sharing your thoughts and hope you have a moment to call me directly so I may have an opportunity to discuss these comments with you and humbly try to earn back your trust as a valued guest. Thank you again. I only hope that we have not lost the one thing we value most, you, our guest. Tim Cordodor, General Manager

This hotel is far north of the main tourist attractions and restaurants. The hotel and rooms are pleasant and the hotel shuttle is essential but planning your activities around their infrequent schedule is very inconvenient. BE SURE TO SIGN UP FOR THE SHUTTLE IN ADVANCE or you will be left behind! The staff is excellent and helpful. The medical center is nearby and many guests seem to find that convenient.

If you are coming to Seattle and wish to be a tourist visiting the sights, you may be happier with a downton location, or near Pike Market, or Pioneer Place.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am pleased that you enjoyed our hotel and level of services. I look forward to sharing your comments with our staff. We do take pride in our commitment to be concierges to our guests, offering assistance in itinerary planning to the many, many activities spread throughout the area, both downtown and in the surrounding areas. Our location, just of I5, and minutes from downtown Seattle, is within walking distance of the premier “North Gate” mall and many restaurants including the Saffron Grill, Stanfords, the Ram and many others. This combined with our recent upgrades to our shuttle service to downtown destinations should help you enjoy all that the area has to offer with less hassle. Thank you again and I hope we have another chance to be your host while visiting our beautiful area. Tim Cordodor, General Manager

We are a group that specializes in travel/cruises for oxygen dependent people and their friends and family--called SeaPuffers. We were going on an Alaska cruise-roundtrip out of Seattle. We chose Hotel Nexus because of the price, but we found out a lot more! Everyone, from the front desk to the shuttle bus drivers were MORE than accomodating!! These folks did everything to make our stay enjoyable. They even changed a couple of folks' room because of a preferred location. Fresh coffee, warm cookies and smiling faces, clean but basic accomodations, what more could you want.

Your group was a pleasure to host! My staff and I were thrilled to read your comments. They help remind us, why we are in the business of hospitality. It was especially nice to hear some of your group’s favorite aspects of the hotel; like the check-in cookies, as they are a new touch for our weekend travelers. So thank you, and group or no group, let us know when we can serve you on your next cruise adventure to Alaska! Tim Cordodor, General Manager

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights while my Dad was having a heart procedure at the U of Washington Medical Center. The shuttle to the hospital was extremely helpful and the staff was very friendly. The room was clean and had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The breakfast provided had plenty of variety to chose from.

There were plenty of eating places to walk to and the shuttle made getting around very easy.

Thank you so much for taking a moment to write about your experience. The staff and I send our thoughts out to you and your family. When it comes to traveling under circumstances like yours, it simply becomes the responsibility of the hotel to make your stay as easy as possible. Your lodging accommodations were the last thing that you needed to worry about and I’m so glad that you found that to be the case. Thank you for your compliments about the staff and accommodations, it’s so helpful to know what travelers like and need and when you need us next, we’ll be here waiting to serve you again. – Tim Cordodor, General Manager

We stayed here just one night. The service was great. The staff was very friendly. Kids had a wonderful time in the pool. The best part was the restuarant. The Saffron Bar and Grill was fabulous! The free hot breakfast was nice too. The only bad thing about the breakfast was fighting all the other guests for the waffle maker.

Thank you for taking the time to share a few of the exciting experiences that you and your family collected here at Hotel Nexus. I am so glad you enjoyed the new restaurant at the hotel. My apologies on you having to wait for your waffle. Even with the second station, this area seems to continue to be quite popular. We look forward to seeing you on your next trip to the area. This is classed as an hotel but more like a motel, did not feel safe at night, people hanging around outside your rooms, doorlocks broken for entry to parts of the building. Barricaded myself in with s/cases chairs etc. Lesson to be learnt sorry but never again.

An outstanding and positive guest experience is the goal of the entire Hotel Nexus team. Our staff prides themselves on immediate response to all guest questions and issues, especially safety. We conduct routine inspections of the property; and are happy to report that all door locks on property are in working order. This stay appears to have overlapped the first days of beautiful sunny weather in Seattle. It’s hard to stay indoors on days like that, so perhaps there were more guests enjoying the view and fresh air from our unique exterior hallways.

The front desk had four employees on, including the manager and of them only one had any decent customer service skills. The manager was incredibly rude and unprofessional, and confrontational when we told him that we'd been hung up on by his only female front desk person when we called to ask why nobody had come to fix the lack of hot water in our room (after having been told an hour before that someone would be right up). We were shocked at how quickly this manager shoved aside the nice and helpful male clerk to tell us his clerk would never hang up on anyone and that we were obviously lying. He then told us that it was too bad but there was nothing they could do for us and we were wasting his time. We demanded our money back (we'd only been there one night and not one of us had gotten a hot shower!) for the remainder of our stay and were told, "no, if you leave early you pay for the whole five days". We eventually got our money back but had to get very upset in order to do so. Since then we have heard other people talk about bad experiences like this at the same place, when we bring it up there's always someone who's been there and can relate. Small world.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Hotel Nexus. We are committed to guest satisfaction and have taken steps to remedy these particular issues. In fact, we continue to embrace change as part of our new culture. The current staff is engaged in making each traveler’s unique experience a satisfying one. We’d love to hear from more of our guests who find us on Trip Advisor. We would love the opportunity to reintroduce the Hotel Nexus to anyone who has stayed with us before. There is always something new, like the “Connexions Café” which is our new breakfast service area that everyone seems to love. Whether it is the bright, cheerful color scheme or the delicious Belgian waffles, the comments we receive are certainly enthusiastic. So, come on in… (or come on back) and be sure to let us know if you think of something we can improve.
