“not bad, not great!”
Reviewed June 4, 2007

The Holiday Inn Express in Seattle is pretty much what you'd expect for the money, but there are a few things I would have liked to have known before booking it.
The wash basin is in the bedroom - not a major issue, but because of this the bathroom is really small, and there isn't anywhere to put your belongings, no basin means no handy shelf, and as the bath is moulded up the wall there's very little space here either.
There are no proper curtains! The windows are dressed with a sheer curtain and curtain panels on either side, the panels don't move, so if you'd like an afternoon nap, or a long lie-in it's going to be difficult as you can't block out the light.
Aurora Avenue N has a barrier all along the centre of it so you have to cross the street at the junction south of the hotel (Denny Way), no big deal, unless you're really tired from lots of walking and you can see your hotel but just have to walk that little bit further to get to it.
As I said it's nothing major, but just a couple of things I'd like to have known.

Arrived a couple of days after the Labor Day long weekend so lots of spare rooms. Put my up on the top floor, almost like a penthouse.

Expensive though.

Small bathroom, the sink is actually outside, in the room. Very weird.

Free internet.

OK service, OK breakfast. Average location. Average cleanness.

We stayed here from 4/2-4/5 and then again with late check in on 4/7 to fly out early the next morning. On 4/2, after a long plane ride, the staff gave both kids cookies and water on arrival. The room was comfortable, nice pool open until 11pm and free internet. The location was perfect, near Space Needle, monorail and bus stops. There was enough choices for breakfast to satisfy all.
When we returned late on 4/7, we did not receive the same warm welcome with cookies, etc., but it was still nice. Also on 4/7, the internet room was closed and we would have loved to check in for our flight online. Also I liked our first room a little better, but still no complaints. It was clean and roomy. We just enjoyed the first stay so much more. We did not even get breakfast during the 4/7 stay because we checked out so early the next morning. The staff did arrange for a town car to the airport at $30 which is much less than a cab. In hindsight, I should have just checked for a late flight home on 4/7.

Well we never actually got to stay here, a group of us girls (5 total) booked a suite through the hotel website as a priority club member. We prepaid and our credit card was charged. When we actually showed up to check in imagine our surprise when they had given away our room. We were even more surprised when they told us that we had not actually paid for the room and that they could give us another smaller room for $100 more. A phone call to our credit card company proved that the room had been charged. They would not help us or even get their manager. A few phone calls later to corporate office and several apologies later we were promised a full refund. Yipee! But that didn't give us a place to stay. Luckily the Travel Lodge across the street was able to accomodate our group last minute and even saved us money. I would be a little leary booking through this chain, especially if you need to be assured a room will be there for you when you try to check-in. Only the very flexible should attempt staying here.

I stayed at this place back in Aug "05" for 3 nights and thought it was great!
I had a room on the 3rd floor facing the highway and yes it was a little noisy but fortunately i was still a little jetlagged so i didn't hear it half the time as i slept like a log!

The rooms were quite comfortable and spacious and the Tv had quite a large selection of cable channels.

As for the hotel facilities i never used the pool so can't comment on that but i did use the gym and although small it was quite sufficient.

They had coin operated laundries on site, and in the reception area you present your hotel keycard to reception and they give you free internet access in a little room they have off to the side!

I found the staff very helpful and courteous!

It is located in a nice safe area about a 15 min walk to pioneer square, markets, wharf, city centre etc

All in all an excellent experience!

Five of us (family) stayed in this hotel for a 3-night city break. We had a 2-bedroomed suite with a total of 3 double beds and a sofa bed. The two bathrooms came in very handy and the small kitchen area with a large fridge was also very useful. The rooms overlooked the Space Needle and were very clean if a bit small. There is secure underground parking at extra cost but on street parking is extremely limited so it is best to use the hotel car park. The hotel is not ideally situated, the front is situated on a very busy dual carriageway but it is only a five minute drive to the centre of Seattle and a 10-minute walk to the Space Needle. We walked into the city centre a couple of times and it took about 25 minutes but was quite pleasant. The hotel has a small swimming pool and a reasonable American Continental Breakfast is served in a small breakfast room. This was one of the best value accommodations in Seattle and we were more than happy with it.

If Holiday Inn is your preference, stay at this one on Aurora... and not the very dated Holiday Inn on Dexter.

One complaint... the parking is below in a locked garage (nice to have in Seattle weather) BUT the spots are exceptionally small. Get a compact if you rent a car... otherwise you are making a few attempts to park - especially if you arrive after most spots are filled.

Several decent dining options within walking distance.
