The focus of downtown Seattle's activity has moved, block by block, northward over the past century. Recent construction and current commercial vitality puts this hotel right at the vital core of the city, within an easy walk to most everything.

This is accommodating accommodation. Two comfortable chairs are set flanking a marble table at exactly the proper distance and angle for easy TV viewing and coffee/martini sipping. The work station has an easily adjustable chair and convenient desktop level outlets and inputs for all electronic devices. The space is thoughtfully arranged for ease of movement and a sense of expansiveness.

The bed and pillows are superb, inviting you to indulge yourself on the occassional grey morning. The bathroom is very commodius with a large shower and contemporary fixtures. It's a bright room with ample magnification. A nice touch is the dimmer which allows subdued light to filter through the translucent, sliding door--No bumping around at night.

The finest of materials have been used everywhere--lots of mirrors, chrome, granite and marble. The rooms are harmoniously warm-neutral. A tasteful, restrained and, ulttimately, elegant hotel.

Locals tell me the restaurant is excellent and the breakfast among the city's best.

The only drawback is Hyatt's eagerness to overcharge for every extra--the cash machine in the hotel charged 10%. Internet is pricy.

As a Philadelphian, but 60 year resident of Seattle, I would not consider any other hotel.

This hotel is conveniently located with access to shopping and attractions. The rooms are clean, spacious and I appreciate the efforts made to be "green". The front desk staff are helpful. The fitness area, particularly the pool, was great. Food provided for meeting was good. Meeting rooms were a bit cold which seems at bit at odds with the whole "green" theme but... Would stay here again.

Date of Stay: Saturday, September 29 - Sunday, September 30, 2012
Length of Stay: 1 Night

In a nutshell, the Hyatt at Olive 8 offers a truly perfect location, excellent customer service and wonderful amenities. This is the perfect place to stay in Seattle!!

Now, for my detailed review:

My wife and I stayed here after an Alaskan Cruise in late September, and it was a truly amazing experience on all levels. From pre-arrival until our departure, the customer service at this property excels at all levels.

First, a word on the excellent Concierge Staff who helped us to plan our day in Seattle. Having never been to Seattle before, we wanted to plan a day of touring after our cruise, but we did not know where to start. Chuck, the Concierge, assisted us in planning the perfect day even before we arrived. He referred us to an absolutely amazing company, "Show Me Seattle" and their partner in luxury private touring, "Totally Seattle." This company is, by far, the best way to see Seattle, so make sure to give them a call. Chuck also set us up with excellent private town car service back to the airport at the end of our stay, "Shuttle Express Town Car." Make sure to make use of the Concierge at the Hyatt at Olive 8, as the Concierge Staff is truly some of the best that you will ever find!

From our excellent customer service pre-arrival, expectations were high when we checked in after our cruise -- and let me tell you, the Hyatt at Olive 8 met and exceeded those expectations in every way!

We arrived early on Saturday, taking a taxi directly from Pier 91 (servicing Holland America, Princess, Carnival & Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines). The Hyatt at Olive 8 is quick taxi ride from Pier 91, making it an excellent place to stay for a pre- or post-cruise visit to Seattle. We arrived in the ultra-modern lobby just after 9 am. As that was well before check-in time, the Front Desk Staff was extremely polite and accommodating. They immediately welcomed us by name, and thanked us for being loyal Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond Level Members. They profusely apologized for the fact that our room was not ready -- which was not necessary in any way, as we were so very early. The Front Desk Staff even gave us a few drink vouchers for use during our wait, which went above and beyond. We were given our room keys and were told that we would receive a text message with our room number as soon as it was available. Such excellent service exceeded our expectations, and we felt truly welcome to the property.

We took a few moments to explore the lobby, and in no time, our private tour from "Totally Seattle" arrived to pick us up. The service on this tour was absolutely amazing -- the Concierge had truly out-done himself setting it up for us! And, during our tour, as promised, the Front Desk sent a text message with our room number. Again, truly excellent service!

After an absolutely amazing tour of Seattle as suggested by the wonderful Concierge Staff, we arrived back to the ultra-modern lobby around 6pm and were quickly in our Suite. We had booked a Luxury King Suite, and let me tell you, it was definitely worth the extra money -- I highly recommend booking such a luxurious room! These rooms are exactly as described on the web site, and we were amazed as we walked in.

The Luxury King Suites are located on the corners of the hotel, offering beautiful views of Downtown Seattle. As you walk in, you enter via a large foyer, which opens into the over-sized Parlor. The Parlor features a computer desk and a guest bath, opening into a large sitting room with comfortable furniture. There is a sleek and modern wet bar, a large flat screen high definition television, and both sides of the room are covered in floor-to-ceiling windows allowing for beautiful views of Downtown Seattle. Then, you enter the bedroom, featuring ample space and an extremely comfortable Hyatt Grand Bed. The bedroom is also equipped with a large flat screen high definition television, and it has a truly amazing master bathroom. Separated by frosted glass sliding doors, the bathroom is one of the largest hotel bathrooms in the area. It features a large glass shower, next to an extremely large soaking tub. The dual vanity offers plenty of space for a couple to get ready, and it also features something very unique -- a television actually set into one of the vanity mirrors! Finally, the toilet is situated just off of the vanity, separated by a large door. All-in-all, the Luxury King Suite is an absolutely amazing haven that is not to be missed. For more details on the room and its features, see the photos attached to this review.

One final comment on the room, regarding the much commented upon room key lighting system. Many commentators have indicated displeasure with this system, but I can assure you, this is a unique system that works very well. In short, to operate the lights in your room, you must insert a room key into a slot on the wall upon entry. However, unlike many of the reviews on here, I must inform you that placing your key into the slot does NOT immediately turn on all lights. Instead, inserting your room key merely activates the lights in the room, and you may still control each light individually via the light switches as you desire. Whatever lights that you had on when you remove your key will turn on as you re-insert your key. A very unique system that truly helps to save energy.

Finally, I must take a moment to comment on the food. This property offers one restaurant and bar, Urbane. Urbane offers truly excellent service with amazing menu selection. Also, it has a great bar, serving up strong drinks with a smile. And, do not forget the excellent room service selections.

All-in-all, the Hyatt at Olive 8 is a truly amazing property, in the perfect location -- convenient to all of the major sites in Downtown Seattle. It offers absolutely amazing customer service that cannot be beat, and an ultra-modern feel with well appointed rooms. The next time that your travels take you to Seattle, do not miss this beautiful property!

Room Tip: Spend the extra money and book a Luxury King Suite!

It is in a very good location to walk to several attractions. The hotel was clean and well appointed. The fitness center is better than most hotels and they have a lap pool (20 meters). I would stay here again.

Stayed at this hotel twice so far, most recently in October 2012.
Seems to be a 'green' hotel....in the rooms, you have to put your room-keycard into a slot inside the room, in order for the lights and stuff to actually work.
Then, when you leave the room and take the keycard with you, the lights shut off.

The indoor swimming pool & hot tub are very nice, and my wife and I were highly impressed with the mens & womens dressing rooms there. Saunas, showers, extra razors, q-tips, and very clean.

No continental breakfast, but they do have a restaurant (we didn't try it, so i can't comment on it). ATM and also a place to get coffee are in the lobby.

Just a couple blocks walk from shopping. Eating establishments are also very close.

If the coffee place in the lobby is closed, there's a Starbucks behind the hotel, open very early.

My husband and I spent a long weekend in Seattle this past September, and found this hotel to be convenient (you can walk to many attractions, top restaurants, and shopping, including the waterfront and the monorail station to the Space Needle), comfortable, and quiet all for a reasonable price considering it is an upscale city spot. It's just a few 5-6 blocks from the light rail station, so practically a straight shot from the airport. We got a great deal on a room that included breakfast vouchers for 2 at the hotel's restaurant, Urbane, which has tasty local cuisine. We had the Dungeness Crab Benedict twice. I have found that the Hyatt hotels tend to be tasteful, more reasonable for hotels of their category vs. other chains, and comfortable, and this one did not disappoint.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor for quiet and views

room had a nice new feeling. Service was great, always very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts (included with our diamond status) were also great. Location is pretty good as well, near all the shops and about 8 blocks from the market.
