Fished with Captain Ian and Master Deckhand Mike on the Reel Tight on Friday 10/25.
Buddy boat Reel Ultra with Captain/Owner Mark Coleman lead the way out of Westport Harbor at O'dark thirty for a safe and pleasurable two hour boat ride to the tuna grounds. Ian and Mike were great to fish with. Very professional class act all the way. Safety was stressed and Mike did a superb job of keeping hooks baited and lines untangled without anyone getting "stuck". Ian did his fair share of deckhand work as well to kept us on the fish once we got on a bait stop. Boat was "plugged" at 3:00 p.m. with 49 fat tuna. Great day all the way with no complaints except it went by too fast.
Along with the fishing we were treated to fish/wildlife viewing along the way to include: humpback whale, a huge pod of jumping white sided dolphins, black-footed albatross, a very big (8-10 ft?) thrasher shark circling the boat while we were drifting on a bait stop, tuna jumping right at the boat, and tuna "flashing" by under the boat while you're watching your anchovy about to get eaten. What a thrill!
I have fished on numerous charters in California, Oregon, Alaska and Washington and I've never seen a better organized, safer, more professionally run operation. I will be back just as soon as I eat up 75 pounds of albacore tuna.
