“Make sure to check out the Underground Tours!”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

Pioneer Square is a short venture from the downtown area. I walked there on my own and felt safe. The area seemed fine, nothing you wouldn't see or encounter in any other urban environment. Make sure you go on one of the Underground Tours. You will get an excellent history lesson on Seattle and the tour guides are fantastic! I think you'll get a greater appreciation for Pioneer Square after you've learned the history behind it.

“Don't go alone and don't go at night”
Reviewed May 9, 2014

I'm not sure what I was expecting from pioneer square but I decided to walk there alone 9am. The closer I got to the square the seedier the place became so I turned around and headed back to safety. What I did miss was the history of Pioneer square. Had I taken the unerground tour I would have discovered this area had burned down in the 20-30's and was rebuild over the ruins. But the area does have some old historical buildings if your into that.

“Interesting Urban Area But Nothing Special”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

Seattle has many other much more vibrant, exciting and thriving places than Pioneer Square. It does has some interesting architecture, shopping and a healthy portion of dive bars with cheap drinks, but it is not worth a special trip to see. If you are in the neighborhood sure, you can have some fun poking around, but expect a fair share of runaways, punks and pan handlers. Not that I am making any moral judgements here, I'm certainly not, but if you have limited time skip Pioneer Square for any of Seattle's much more fun attractions.

“Eclectic hodgepodge”
Reviewed April 29, 2014

Pioneer Square has to be my favorite place to go when I'm in Seattle. It has an eclectic hodgepodge feel to it almost like you're in old world. It has a real community feel to it. You know you are getting close when you start to see the unique old fashioned street lamps, horse drawn carriages and cobblestone streets. There are one of a kind shops, art galleries, bookstores, restaurants and night clubs lining the street in and round Pioneer Square. There are statues, totem poles, historical landmarks, sights, sounds, and smells to be enjoyed while strolling the square. Local artists and musicians display their talents hoping to catch their big break. Sit outside at one of the many cafe's and chat or join a game of chess. Everyone is nice and friendly. There is something for everyone. My best advice~ wear comfortable shoes.

“Seattle History”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

Joined the underground tour ans well as the Seattle free walking tour the "Seattle 101" which features Pioneer square and it has a lot of history especially the Seattle fire. There are also interesting buildings, shops, the pergola, of course the head of the chief where Seattle got its name can be found here. Its very interesting place for people who love history.
