“Fantastic View!!!”
Reviewed September 20, 2010

We stayed here the night before boarding ship for an Alaska cruise. The location is right next door to the cruise terminal @ pier 66 (for NCL cruises). Arriving at night, the view of the harbour and city is fabulous, and waking up and pulling the drapes to see your cruise ship is wonderful. The water facing balcony room is more expensive, but if you can afford it...it's worth it. The room is huge with a big flat screen TV.

Since we got in late, we ordered from the room service menu and the fish and chips was plentiful, fresh and delicious.

The service in the dining room for breakfast was a little slow, but we had a rookie waitress. The people in the hotel are all very friendly and guest services were very helpful with giving me directions to walk to Pike Place Market which is a about a 10 minute walk. Check out the market, it is really cool with cheap bouquets of flowers ($5 - $15!!), seafood, restaurants and the usual t-shirt, knick knacks, artwork and jewellry. There is a shuttle from the hotel to downtown as well.

The day of the cruise, the bell hop took our luggage to the terminal, so we simply walked to the ship...and saved the cost of a cab!

The novelty and convenience of staying at The Edgewater is well worth the cost IMO.

If you expect good service, don't stay at this hotel. We experienced two major service-related issues while we stayed at the Edgewater. The staff was very reluctant to fix each of these. In addition, the lounge downstairs turns into a rocking nightclub on weekends after 10 pm (great if you are 20 to 30 yrs old---not so great if you have a family).

I stayed at the Edgewater during a 5 days business trip. All staff were very friendly and prompt in addressing all my needs.
I organized a meeting for about 20 people using two different conference rooms over the course of three days and that included catering lunch. The event manager, a technician and those in charge for catering met with me every morning to make sure that everything was in order. Wi-Fi is provided in the rooms at a cost (they have 1, 3 or weekly packages) and signal strength was adequate. Wi-Fi access is also available in the conference rooms that, by the way, have striking views on the water and provide a very soothing meeting environment.
I had a room with "city view". Very clean with sufficient room for clothes and a good size desk with extra outlets for computer and other electrical devices (rare to find these days!). Bathroom was practical. No tub, but good size shower. Wall and floor tiled with stone. Water pressure was not a problem. The decor in the rooms is mainly "northwestern" with carved wood, stones, heavy solid wood furniture and lamp shades depicting mooses, bears and fish...Not exactly my style but....hey, everything else was perfect, including the amazing restaurant and bar ("six seven")!. The little boutique run by the hotel has some cute stuff but pricewise is unapproachable. Some of my colleagues complained about the noise from the nearby railroad tracks, but I did not hear anything. I would definitely recommend this hotel for meetings and conferences.

Right on the water - Beatles stayed there in the 60's. Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable, clean but a bit small (which was no problem) - the bed was fantastic with feather pillows an option - bathroom was beautiful - bath/shower products outstanding - plush bathrobes. Small balcony with view of harbor - woke up on Friday to see a cruise ship docked next door! On the other side of hotel just a short walk was the Victoria Clipper dock where we took the ferry to Victoria on Saturday. Location was perfect for us.

Restaurant was delicious with a good selection of local fare - elegant dining in a casual setting overlooking the water. Breakfast and dinner were outstanding. Alcoholic drinks were generous with a wide range of liquors available. Wait staff well trained, friendly and knowledgeable.

Lounge was comfortable on Tuesday when we first got there, but as the week progressed it got busier and nosier.

Seattle was very pedestrian friendly and we found we had no need for a car (parking was $33/night) - we turned in our rental after the 1st day. What a vacation - no driving. Took the ferry to Victoria, BC and then a bus/ferry to Vancouver, BC which left us 3 short blocks from out hotel there.

There was a free bus that stopped right in front of the Edgewater and ran along the water front to the older part of downtown. Most of the city's public transportation (from Pike's Market down to the Football & Baseball stadiums) was FREE during the day.

We arrived here expecting it to be great, we were excited about having a balcony over looking the water. When we checked in the lobby is beautiful and staff was friendly. We were in room 410 which is a junior sweet on the top floor, room was small but nice. We then went to look at this amazing view we had, and as we walked out on the balcony we realized it was in very poor shape. The wood was rotten the screws were not in all of the boards because they had rusted out, which made the floor will scary to walk on, As we started looking around we noticed the balcony next to us had a tie strap holding the rail to the entire fourth floor. I then called management and they informed me that they didn't know their was a tie strap holding the balcony rail up but they would send their engineer up to look at it. In the mean time we ate at Six Seven it was good. When we got back to are room I called back down to management who this time was very rude and said the balcony was safe and we should have no worries. We are not used to staying in run down hotels so we left that night an checked into Pan Pacific. It doesn't have a water view, but we had a safe balcony with city view, nicer room, and staff would go out of their way to help you.

Check-in staff "upgraded" street level room to partial bay view room on second floor. The room, unfortunately, was the last one on the hall and served as the very early morning entry for cleaning staff. This meant repeated door openings and closings, conversation, and movement of bedding carts for almost two hours every morning. This would have been a perfect wake-up call for business travelers with early AM appointments but not for tired tourists who needed just a little more sleep. After check-in, one lamp needed a light bulb. Called down to replace the 60-watt bulb but staff left 40-warr bulb. It seems like a small thing but the overall lightling was dim, and uncomfortable for reading. The nightstand had a complimentary Book of Buddha but nothing else; desk staff stated that were not aware of this policy. The mattresses need to be replaced. Hall carpets darkly patterned; room decor and halls could benefit from ligher colorsMy concerns were voiced to the manager; Tiny business center; opening the doors barely misses the back of chairs. I was offered a complimentary cup of coffee and pastry on the morning of check-out.

I used to stay at this hotel on business trips and always enjoyed it but in recent years they have remodeled some and increased the rates to ridiculous levels trying to capitalize on the location. The location is good but it's an old, old, building with very poor sound proofing and our room was tiny, tiny. They trying to come off as some ultra fancy place when really it's just an old building in a decent location.
