“Pleasant rooms, Reasonably good food, Fabulous top floor bar view”
Reviewed April 30, 2012

My husband and I returned to the Renaissance for a second conference there this year. We were very pleased with the service, and the rooms were comfortable. A friend said his room facing the highway was noisy, but ours was fine. A number of good restaurants are within walking distance, but it is not in the heart of things. We found it to be a good location, however. If you don't mind walking a bit or taking a taxi sometimes, I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the highway or one on a higher floor.

If you're not in condition to walk up a hill then this hotel will not be for you. The hotel is located blocks from the shopping area but it requires a good hike up the hill returning to the hotel that will discourage you to leave in the first place. The hill is quite steep. Also, walking up the hill on Madison there is an abandon building next to the hotel that had some homeless sleeping outside that you may pass by.

Hotel service was good. They allowed me to check-in at 10am which was very nice. I like the lobby atmosphere with a lounge / modern feel to it. There is also a bar on the top of the hotel which overlook much of downtown Seattle, but unfortunately it was closed on Sunday night.

The room was comfortable and quiet even though our room overlooked the I-5 Freeway. Our room was quiet large and the bed was very comfortable.

We took the Light Rail to / from the airport. The station is University.

No pool in the hotel.

Room Tip: For a great view ask for an upgrade during check-in. Make sure to ask for high floor.

Dear TPZWXC,
Thank you for your comments.
I do appreciate that you liked the service and amenities of the hotel. As far as accesss to the hotel is concerned, it is less steep if one walks from University to Sixth and Sixth to Madison.
This makes the approach a lot more convenient. Another inexpensive way to travel from the Airport is via the Supershuttle, and we are the first hotel stop in the city.
Thank you again for your comments.

We stayed 2 nights at the Seattle Marriott Renaissance Hotel. It's location is called "pike area" on Priceline but it is a little out of the way. Still, Pike Market is only about a 10-15 min. walk. We asked to stay on the west side of the hotel so that we would not be over the Interstate 5 Highway. This request was kindly accomodated, along with our request for 2 double beds and an upper-floor room. Front desk staff and conceigere were all helpful and professional. I see that people posted trouble with elevator--I have to say we did not have this problem (April 27 - 29). As for the room itself, it was fairly large and newly renovated. The bathroom, shower, and beds were all in good condition and there were nice touches such a Aveda products and complimentary newspapers etc. In the hotel lobby, Starbucks coffee is available in the coffee shop. Our only complaint was the self-parking fee--$30.00 and then $6.60 per night in tax. I queried this and was told that the parking tax is at 20% which I don't fully understand (hotel tax is 15%). Personally, I think they should just charge a rate that includes tax like all other parking garages so that there are no unexpected charges on check-out. Other than this, I can recommend this hotel as a comfortable, well-maintained hotel to stay in Seattle.

Room Tip: ask for an upper floor room that is not over the interstate hwy

Dear Canada77,
Thank you very much for your comments,
I do understand your concerns about the parking fees and the taxes associated with it.
The city of Seattle raised the taxes two years to 20% to cover for the cost of the street projects in the city. Seattle in general is the 5th most expensive city in the US as far as parking fees are concerned and the second most expensive for street parking. Many hotels such as ours do not have enough parking in the hotel itself and have to pay for offsite parking. This is one of the reason that parking is rather expensive.
I do appreciate that you enjoyed your stay and hope to welcome you back to the Renaissance Seattle.

It's a nice fancy tall hotel withinw alking distance of most major attractions. Usual amenities: free wifi, flat screen tv, gym, no fog bathroom mirror. Con: only some elevators were working (and not very well), not cheap. Pro: very helpful, smiling, and patient staff; great clam/salmon chowder. But the best thing I found was the beautifu, small, top floor, uncrowded and quiet restaurant on a Saturday night with good food, great service, and wonderful views.

Dear Traveling Pseudonym,
Thank you very much for your comments. We are sorry about the elevator issues which we know have corrected. I am especially pleased that you enjoyed the roof top restaurant. I do agree with you that beyond the best view of the city, this restaurant has great food and great service.
Again thank you for your comments.

This is an average, run of the mill Marriott. I arrived late and tired. My first room was right next to the bank of elevators and very noisy. I asked for another and was given one with very loud highway noise. By the third try I received an acceptable room. The street noise was drowned out by the (white) noise of the air handling unit. Front desk staff were not particularly helpful or friendly.

A Marriott property - very conveniently located if you are doing business downtown or if that is your launching point. Clean, comfortable, and basically everything you would need on a biz trip. The work-out room is a bit small and depending on your timing, you may not be able to get a cardio machine (I believe they have 4 treadmills, 2 elipticals and 2 bike machines, plus some weights - not much for a hotel this size).

So I stayed here this past weekend for a conference. (Previous conferences had been at another hotel just down the street for the previous three years).
The lobby, the bars, banquet rooms, and guest rooms all looked great.
I was in a room on the 14th floor facing the freeway and really didn't have any problems with the freeway noise (make sure the window is closed all the way and the lever handle is closed).
While we had a discounted rate for parking and internet access, the regular rates are the market rates in the downtown core. One option that is offered here is self parking, versus valet only at many downtown locations. They need a "overnight hotel guests only" policy for the self-parking - especially on busy weekends (or they already have this, then they need to enforce it). The single elevator into the 5 floors of the basement parking garage was quick.
Valet parking takes 15-20 minutes to retrieve your car, so they are not using the same self-park garage
The only real complaint from this weekend was the elevators,There are 5 elevators.
At some point through the weekend, we were in 4 of them. 2 of them are newer, the other 3 older.
The waits were long though..... 5 to 10 minutes most of the time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the west side
