“Old hotel, fine attention to detail but feels like there's a ghost or 2 kicking around.”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

It bills itself as having Old World Charm, and to an extent it does exude it... but all the promo photos have had 100 watt bulbs, and extra lighting added to make the rooms seem warm and brightly lit. It feels like an old apartment building converted into an old hotel.
The rooms don't have the warm appeal as the promo shots display- they are rather dark and feel like you're spending a night at your great grandmothers complete with antique furniture, and low wattage light bulbs, and a tub whose faucet is half into the tub with a sign warning you not to fill past it. As a matter of fact, there seem to be little signs everywhere telling you what you should do (a reflection of a micro manager? control freak?) I think I counted 4 different ones...
Spent the night here, and it was comfortable enough, but it reminded me of the corridors in the Shining, creaky floors, old linoleum in the kitchen (not bright and clean like in the promo shot). Nice vintage details abound in the bathroom, and someone has made an effort to color co-ordinate the matting in the picture frame to the color of the shower curtain, but it's 2013! There is an old matte (non see through) thick rubber shower curtain, with a burgundy cloth outer liner, so you shower in the dark...
I've added some of my own photos for you to make your own mind up about whether to stay here. I believe it is a walk up hotel, so don't think there's an elevator to get to the upper floors (not good for handicapped) Check out the shot of the kitchen glassware- neatly presented.( nice detail.)
So, you are not located close to the downtown core at this hotel, you would need to get a taxi in, but the Queen Anne area has lots of charm and plenty of restaurants/distractions for a day or afternoon here.

Wow! Booked online $84 +taxes, great 1918 hotel brought back to its mahogany-panelled, broad staircased glory. Originally housed revered mechanics ("motor doctors"); there was a Ford Motor plant at nearby Lake Union in the '20's. Room 201 huge ... entry, separate sitting room, kitchen with banquette by window, wonderful bathroom, two large & comfortable beds, triple pane windows (Queen Anne Ave. out the windows, but SILENT! For us, this is a multi-star hotel reminiscent of Edinburgh's York House for a great price. It's a 14-minute 0.7 mile walk through Seattle Center to the Space Needle and monorail ($1 seniors!), a pleasant evening stroll back from any of Tom Douglas' restaurants (don't miss PALACE KITCHEN!)

Room Tip: Room 201 has its own sitting room, perfect if one person wakes up before the other and wants to read...

The MarQueen Hotel is a lovely old brick building at the base of Queen Anne hill in Seattle. It is well located for exploring downtown Seattle. The public spaces of the hotel are nicely decorated, clean, comfortable, and inviting. Our king room was spacious (with its own kitchenette and small dining area), but the furnishings and fixtures were cheap, old, and well worn. This is NOT a luxury hotel.

This hotel is in the Queen Anne area of Seattle. It is a short walking distance to the Space Needle (Seattle Center). The hotel was old with lots a charm. My room had water stains in the tub and a spot of squeaky wood floors (first floor) but it was put of the charm. A plaque said the hotel was built in 1918 so it is old but had everything one can need. There were 2 comfortable beds, a microwave, refrigerator, tv and even a pull out couch in the seating area. My 2 children 10 and 13 loved the hotel. I will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Seattle and I would definitely return to the hotel. There is a market about a block away on Mercer so the refrigerator could be stocked. Side note, Thor at the front desk is slightly geographically challenged and should not be asked for directions or bus routes.

Yes, the hotel is old and in need of updating. But the plus is that it's a cheap hotel near downtown Seattle, close to all the attractions and shopping you could need. It is however far from the sky train line so don't recommend it if you're getting around with public transportation: you need a car to get to/from airport.
Staff was polite and prompt with requests.

Let me start by stating the front desk staff was very nice and helpful. The location is great, awesome restaurants right across the street, great neighbourhood and the monorail just a 10 minute walk away.

The hotel is a nice throw back to a time gone by, but so is the up keep. The wall paper is falling off the walls and ceiling. The toilet keeps running after flushing, the tile on the shower wall is either chipped or missing. Don’t even try to take a shower unless you like to do the hot and cold tango.

All this place needs is for the owners to put some money back into this place and pay a full time maintenance person to fix these small things. If you like history and don’t mind lack of up keep this a nice boutique hotel. Just don’t expect Luxury.

Thank you,
Barbara
