Owner description: Here at Alaska 360's Dredge Town in Skagway, Alaska, you can immerse yourself in the history and beauty of the Klondike Gold Rush. Visitors are transported back to the 1890's as our costumed staff meets, greets, guides, and entertains them. Our site includes everything from gold panning, to Iditarod sled dogs, to an authentic dredge and a chamber where you can experience 40-below temperatures. On site you can enjoy the many attractions and displays including a dress up photo shack, movies, and educational exhibits. There is also a restaurant and soda factory to allow our guests to make a day of it at Dredge Town. We aren’t just tours – we are an experience!

We made an impromptu visit to the Klondike Gold Dredge and were met with a friendly face around every corner.
We started by panning for gold- While it was different from other panning from gold experiences, everyone found some gold, was able to measure the gold and then have it placed in a necklace/charm. A nice take away!
We then experienced the 40 degrees below zero room where we put on heavy parkas ( thank goodness!) and spent time in 40 below simulator. There was an ice chair and frozen fruit you could use as a hammer!!!
We had our picture taken in a studio with a green screen and then selected a funny photo that still cracks me up- a photo that we will be able to laugh about for years to come.
We ended our stay with the sled dog experience- Matt was fabulous with sharing his Iditarod experience. He taught everyone about his equipment and readily answered questions. We then met the dogs and... PUPPIES! Maddie and Matt had the dogs demonstrate how the sled team works and then we got to hold the baby alaskan husky puppies.
No one went away from any of these tours disappointed. We had a great time, didnt feel rushed and felt the warmth and friendliness of all the staff!!

We took the Sled Dogs, 40 Below, and Gold Panning tour, a new addition to cruise excursions this year. We loved Matt and Maddie and all of the sled dogs, very informational and fun. We definitely recommend it if you have a dog lover in the family! The gold panning was good once we got the hang of it and the cold chamber was interesting as well. Overall, very interesting, informative, fun, a good taste of Alaska if you are on a budget!

This is our 3rd trip to the Klondike Gold Dredge, having taken other grandchildren in 2006 and 2009. We were impressed this time with the new elements of the tour, which now include a -40 degree below zero and sled-dog experiences. The basic attraction is still the panning for gold and is always a fun time for adults and kids alike. The tour guides are very helpful in assisting in this area. You later have the opportunity to have your gold weighed and to purchase special necklaces that hold the gold in a small vile - a big hit with the youngsters.

Included now is the -40 degree below zero experience. You get to don special parkas and light gloves for what amounts to about 10 minutes in the chanber. Its fun to take a picture inside either sitting on the ice throne or with the thermometer in the background.

Also new (at least since 2009) is the sled-dog and dogsledding experience. Matt, who runs in the Ididarod dog sled race, along with Mattie give a short demonstration and show a working sled and all its equipment. One then gets to see and pet the dogs. This trip we were all fortunate enough to be able to hold 16 day old Alaskan Husky pups. What a thrill.

Sluicebox Charlie, a colorful old sourdough, personally welcomes each tour with instuctional tale on the Klondike history laced with light humor and gives a short description of gold panning techniques.

It looks like this attraction will continue to grow. They are doing all the right things. Its fun for the whole family.

My husband and I visited the Gold Dredge during a cruise to Alaska. While the staff made an attempt to get into "character" there didn't seem to be any passion for the history of gold mining or the gold dredge. They stuck to their scripts pretty well. Despite the fact that the gold dredge is old and rusty (which is not entirely under the staff's control) the grounds were not well kept. It wasn't unclean it was just very outdated. The music playing over the loud speaker was coming in and out like AM radio. The gold panning is fun for the whole 5 minutes it lasts. The view of the mountains and Skagway are nice as well. However, for the amount per person it costs to visit the dredge I would not recommend this to anyone.

this is definitely worth considering - its all good fun and the people there taking you on the dredge and gold panning tours are such characters. a really informative and fun hour or so. you are guaranteed to find gold at the gold panning part - some find just a little but others find quite alot - and yes it is real gold!
