Chilkoot Trail Outpost
Ranked #1 of 5 Skagway B&B and Inns

If you are visiting Skagway and want an amazing place to stay... don't pass up the Chilkoot Trail Outpost. Beautiful, quiet and absolutely amazing. The rustic, but modern and exceptionally clean, log cabins are a dream. Kathy and Fred make sure that your every need is met. Do not miss out on their evening meal.. absolutely delicious!!! (additional cost, but well worth it). A hearty breakfast is also served in the morning.(included) The location of this B&B is off the beaten track in Dyea. It is in a secluded, forest area and the honeymoon suite has the added bonus of a waterfall right out the back window.

Room Tip: All cabins appear to be great.. but Honeymoon cabin has the waterfall.

Great location, away from the Skagway tourist locations. The cabins are nicely and simply decorated, bathrooms clean, and nice hot shower felt good. I found the breakfast to be a disappointment - eggs obviously not fresh scrambled - they were barely warm, rubbery and unseasoned. Otherwise a continental breakfast.
And if you are thinking about their surf and turf, I think you can get a better value elsewhere.

We stayed at the Chilkoot Trail Outpost for two nights during June 2014.

The Outpost is located at the end of a really scenic drive along the 7 mile Dyea Road, at the end you can (if you're lucky) spot bears grazing and harbor seals bobbing!

Kathy (our host) welcomed us to the property and talked us through the package we had booked directly with them, which included a show in town, a BBQ meal and the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad.

We took the BBQ meal on our first night and for a small fee Kathy cooked it for us and served it to us in the dinning room. The meats, jacket potatoes and salad were really good. Be aware that the desert offered (ice-cream) was at an additional charge (not mentioned at the time of offering).

Our cabin (number 1) was well maintained, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Free Wi-Fi was available in the cabin, but was quite slow during busier times (first thing in the morning and in the evening).

Each evening Kathy provided a s'mores bucket (for free) including cookies, marshmallows and chocolate so you could toast your own s'mores on the campfire! A really nice touch.

Both mornings we took breakfast earlier than the advertised 7:30-8:30 timings by agreement with Kathy. The breakfast was hearty and simple and provided a great start to the day. Please bear in mind that some fresh produce is expensive and hard to obtain due your hosts having to cross borders with Canada to get it!

With all the trails and wildlife, we could easily have happily stayed here another couple of nights. Thank you Kathy & Fred for looking after us so well, we will be back!

It was our first taste of Alaksan hospitality and we were not disappointed one bit. Off the beaten track of the Skagway tourist trap it is well worth the extra couple of miles to travel to this excellent cabin based B&B location in Dyea. The hosts, Kathy and Fred, are genuinely delighted to welcome their guests. Nothing, it seems, is too much trouble for this hospitable couple. Our log cabin was well appointed and the lay-out of the site pleasing to the eye. The reception area is also the breakfast room where guests can avail themselves of the freely available coffee and tea. In truth our couple of nights was not long enough what with the trails available and the other places to explore. Plus a bonus was the free use of the bikes available for guests use at the Outpost (with safety helmets if your require).
Kathy's recommendation for the free afternoon Ranger walk was well worth the short drive and is a must if you wish to get to learn the history of Dyea-close up and personal. The immediate area also provided our very first siting of a grizzly bear which was an awesome experience in itself. For those not wishing to stay in the immediate Skagway area (which is rather tacky) the choice of the Chilkoot Trail Outpost is a no brainer....
If you are looking for fault (and you have to look hard) whilst an evening meal can be provided at the Outpost it is somewhat basic when compared to the breakfasts, but alternatives are available in Skagway, a 20 minute drive away. But all in all a very noteworthy B&B.

Room Tip: Aviod the two cabins nearest the evening (nightly) campfires if you wish for an early quiet night.

This modern and comfortable bed and breakfast is located 7 miles from Skagway and near the Chilkoot trail head. The location is beautiful and Kathy and Fred do their utmost to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. The food is delicious and the cabins comfortable, with WiFi available. The location and care of the hosts make the drive from Skagway well worth it. The location is near the extinct town site of Dyea, which is actually where the Klondike gold rush was based. The Chilkoot Trail has been made famous in books and movies.

I booked a room for my parents for our two days stay in Alaska. These hosts were the most gracious and welcoming hosts I've ever dealt with. Wow. From the moment we registered they were friendly, accommodating, welcoming and whatever else fits. The room we booked was quaint but fully loaded and there isn't anything else needed for a vacation in Alaska. You get the northern feel with the quality of home. Love it. Already booked a few more days. Can't wait to go back.

We booked a two-day stay at Chilkoot Trail Outpost on an impulse based on a strong recommendation from friends who live in Whitehorse, Yukon. It was one of the best decisions we made during our10-day vacation. Cathy and Fred took care of everything including booking us on the Fjord Express from Skagway to Juneau as well at the White Pass to Yukon train excursion. We stayed in a "hikers cabin" and found it to be extremely comfortable and appropriate for what we needed. Enjoyed the two breakfasts as well as the one dinner we had while staying at the Outpost. It is indeed a treasure with Cathy and Fred being its most valuable assets.
