Chilkoot Trail Outpost
Ranked #1 of 5 Skagway B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence

Absolutely the highlight of our trip. We spent 10 days touring the Yukon and parts of Alaska, and our stay with Kathy and Fred was the best by far. Our cabin was immaculate, the bed was heavenly, and their hospitality is out of this world. Our only regret was that we couldn't extend our stay with them. If you are planning to go to Skagway, skip the commercialism of downtown and make the short drive to Dyea to stay with these lovely people. If you decide to partake of their offered bbq'd dinner, you won't be disappointed - Kathy's coleslaw is the best! We can't recommend the Chilkoot Trail Outpost highly enough, and the host and hostess are genuinely lovely people.

We arrived at the Chilkoot Trail Outpost after 10 days on the road from Minnesota. We were welcomed into a fresh, clean private cabin room with a ridiculously comfortable bed, a hot shower and snacks in the room. Fred and Kathy treated us like family -- s'mores by the campfire, an incredibly delicious hearty Alaskan breakfast the next morning, bear viewing with Fred and tales of Alaskan lore. After our 4 day trek on the Chilkoot Trail, Kathy had an incredible dinner waiting for us and oh boy did that soft bed and fluffy pillows feel good!! After two nights with them, we didn't want to leave! I HIGHLY recommend this B&B because it is much, MUCH more than you can ever imagine in a home away from home. Thank you Chilkoot Trail Outpost for your genuine hospitality and comfort.

A very quiet location with a relaxing firepit, Smores & guitars at the ready. The cabins are very clean and inviting. Kathy and Fred are down to earth hosts that make this place feel as if it was not our first visit. The breakfast, which Fred serves in his long socks, is just right. Fruit, yogurt, pancakes, scrambled eggs and endless coffee all served with a smile.

The "Honeymoon Cabin" comes with a natural waterfall behind the bedroom window that lulls you asleep. When visiting Skagaway it is worth the scenic drive around the canal to this restful and friendly accomodations. We will recommend it to all our family and friends.

Thanks to Kathy and Fred.

A welcome sight at the end of road to Dyea and the start of the Chilkoot Trail. Our cabin was comfortable and cozy and came with chocolate! The lodge has a friendly atmosphere and offers a gourmet grill-it-yourself salmon/halibut dinner. Not to mention the S'Mores...

Book in advance, we stayed in June and the Outpost was full!

Fred and Kathy --We almost hate to do this because if too many people find out about your wonderful accomodations and location it will be that much harder for us to reserve a cabin. We absolutley loved our cabin, fantastic breakfasts, nightly smores at the campfire, spotless accomodations and our friendly hosts. We want to come again and enjoy even more of your wonderful Alaska location. We feel blessed to have been able to spend the week in Dyea with Chilkoot Trail Outpost. Thanks again for making our stay such a fantastic memory. We hit the "gold mine" ! Thanks again.

Chilkoot Trail Outpost was one of our favorite spots to stay during our two week Alaskan vacation. They are located in a very scenic area. The cabins, lodge and property are very neat and clean, and the hosts, as well as other staff members we met, were extremely friendly.

We rented three cabins for our group so we had an opportunity to see both the standard cabins and a hiker's half cabin. All met our needs perfectly.

Enjoy the surf & turf picnic baskets if you can. You can order your preference of salmon or halibut and either steak or chicken. They include other foods and it's all put into a picnic basket where you simply grill the fish/meat and it's ready to eat in their nice gazebo. We had a friendly helper who grilled it for us.

All in all, somewhere we'd highly recommend.
