“Not your usual park”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We'd been to Skagway about 30 years ago, so we had some idea of the history. However, the park was just getting started at that point and didn't offer much interpretation. We took the (free) walking tour this time, and it was excellent! It gave us a good synopsis of what went on during the gold rush, both in Skagway and in the surrounding area.

“Lots of History and FREE!”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

Visiting the information center in Skagway is a must! We signed up for the free tour around town. We loved it. If your even halfway into learning about historical events then this is for you. The center is right there on the first street you walk on when you enter Skagway. Go in and sign up for the tour. First you watch a short film, maybe 30 minutes or so, and then you start on your walking tour around the town. Our guide was very knowledgable and informative and made the tour fun and interesting. You end up at the Moore Homestead. There is very first cabin built in Skagway by the man who started the town. Lots of information about the Klondike Gold rush.

“Great FREE way to see Skagway”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

Great and informative tour of downtown Skagway. National park service ranger walked us around town telling story of Skagway and the Yukon gold rush. Only hampered by cruise crowds. Great way to spend the morning before an activity.

“Very interesting walk”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

If you are looking for something to do in Skagway in between other tours stop by the Klondike Gold Rush Visitor Center. They have a great walking tour that goes around town. They'll give you a map and descriptions of the locations, and everything except the museum is free and even that was only like $2 per person. There is also a guided tour that runs a few times a day, which we unfortunately didn't have time to wait for.

“Interesting history”

Informative park rangers, good displays. Would have enjoyed more planned events/lectures in and outside of town.
