We were up for a family event and stayed a full week. This is a charming B&B. The owners Jan and John and the staff are friendly, helpful and fun. Breakfast is good and the muffins made daily. Do not miss the cookie jar!

My parents and I spent two nights here. When I made the reservation, the owners were very helpful in assigning us a room with a king bed for my parents, and a twin bed for me, so we would not have to pay for separate rooms.

I made our reservations about three months in advance. The week we were due to arrive, the owners sent me an Email, offering to send someone to the ferry dock to pick us up. I did not have a chance to respond to them immediately, so they sent me a follow up message two days later - they wanted to make sure about our pick up! They also arranged for a car to take us back to the docks at 5:30 AM on our departure morning.

Our room was very clean, and the beds were comfortable. Although our room was next to the front door, the walls are thick enough that we were not disturbed by other guests while we slept.

We did not eat breakfast at the B & B during our stay, but we were given "to go" bags both days.

While we were in Skagway, we took the White Pass & Yukon railroad, and a National Park Service walking tour of Skagway. Both the train ride and the walking tour were excellent. The staff of the White House recommended we eat dinner at Skagway Brewing Company, a brew pub three or four blocks from the B&B. Although it was a little pricey, both the food and the beer were very good.

Our stay at the White House was wonderful, and we would definitely stay there again on our next visit to Skagway!

Dear JoeMSP,
Thank you for the detailed review. We appreciate you taking the time to highlight the things we work at so hard ... cleanliness, comfort, character. And for future travelers, the Skagway Brew Co., just down the alley from our place and yes, the food and their beer (brewed on-site) is delicious. Thank you again. Jan and John

My daughter and I were making our way from Boone, NC to Juneau, AK by way of the Skagway ferry the second weekend in May 2011. In all of the many hours of planning, when we arrived in Skagway we realized we had not confirmed lodging for the night. Our GPS pointed us in the direction of The White House. We called and were then completely taken in and taken care of. Great room with a queen and king bed. Microwave, small frig and best of all great bubble bath soap. After a whirl wind trip of 3,917 miles Jan and John provided a wonderful home atmosphere for us to recharge in. Thanks so much to the both of you.

Dear Jewellee59,
Thank you for the review. For clarification for other travelers, the microwave is available for guest use in the dining room, not the guest rooms. The rooms do however each have a small refrigerator. It was our privilege to be a part of your long journey. Come back and see us some time. Kind regards, Jan

Loved the property and the hosts were very nice. I think the original place may have burned down and this is, in part, a replica, but it was comfortable, historic, convenient location. It may be the most booked bed and breakfast in Skagway. Could only get a room here for one night of my four in the town. A lot of historic items on display throughout. Beautiful quilts and shams on the bed, a window seat in the room to put your suitcase or your fanny. Downstairs common areas are accommodating. The breakfast was not impressive. We chose to go out for breakfast instead of eating cold hard boiled eggs and boring-looking english muffins. Pretty gardens and easy walking distance to everything in town, yet off the main drag. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: I found skagwayaccommodations dot com -- showed me everything that was available, very handy.

Dear StateofWonder,
Appreciate your taking the time to submit a review to TripAdvisor. We take this feedback very seriously. I wish you had come in for breakfast and given it a try, unless of course your days all start with bacon and eggs, because we don't do that. We do however offer deli style bagels, home baked muffins and a variety of cereals, yogurt and fruit, and the boring ole boiled egg. We will be trying some new offerings this summer that I am excited about. We have a page on our website that offers a detailed description of our breakfast buffet for those that are curious. We don't want anyone to be disappointed.

As far as the house goes, it was built in 1902 and did indeed have a fire in 1977. The fire gutted the upstairs but did little damage to the ground floor. It was uninsured and the owners essentially boarded it up and walked away in 1978. We bought it in 1990 and opened the doors in 1997, after completely rebuilding the upstairs and renovating the ground floor. Please come back again and give it a whirl. Kind regards, Jan and John

We spent two night in Skagway whcih was ideal. We arrived late one night by ferry and the town was so quiet. As it was so light, we walked the main street (only street) and then went to bed. The next day, 4 cruise ships had arrived and with them 10,000 tourists. The town was abuzz! Again that night, quiet. It was fabulous to see the contrast! The Yukon/white pass railroad is a must plus there are some lovely short day walks in the area. John and Jan were very good as was Kate who recommended some dinner spots! There is a yummy Thai restaurant there. Anyway, a great place to stay and a great town, Marnie and Ed, Australia

Dear QueenslandMeg,
Thanks for the write up. Skagway is indeed a community of contrast. Night to day. Summer to winter. Glad you had fun. The Thai restaurant, StarFire, is still here and better than ever. Keep on travelin', John and Jan

We were looking for somewhere to stay in Skagway before and after backpacking the Chilkoot Trail - the White House was ideal and we would certainly recommend it. In contrast to some previous reviewers we found the owners friendly and welcoming (but not "in your face"), and there was everything we needed for breakfast. Even more importantly, we found it very pleasant, comfortable and quiet - far enough from the cruise ship crowds but convenient for the shops and restaurants, and with a handy bus shuttle to the airport with our rucksacks at the end of the trip. All in all a very pleasant stay.
