We visited Skagway aboard the Celebrity Infinity and planned this excursion months in advance. The conductor told great historical stories as we climbed and climbed and climbed through the mountains. We rode the train to Canada and then came back to Skagway via motorcoach with other stops. I loved that you could go out on the car platforms and take photos, and our family bought the train's CD to have for future views. The CD includes even more history and photos about the historic train and what it meant back in gold mining days. We visited in September 2010 although I didn't have that date choice for this review.

Great way to see the beauty of Alaska is to go by train up to the summit, the best views are on the right side of the train, they have you switch sides on the way back but the windows fog up and u cant really see much on the way down so grab that window seat on the way up, they offer free water but its best to grab a hot coco or coffee before you get on, sit near the middle of the train cars to avoid the smell of the fuel and the chill from the open window or other people going in and out the doors, dress warm and make sure your gloves are waterproof, i suggest a video camera because you will want to relive the beauty.

I have wanted to do this trip for as long as I can remember and it did not dissapoint.

Towards the top the rail runs along side the original trail used by the gold seekers heading to the Yukon, the trail is still visible and reminds you of their hardships.

The train passes through tunnels over bridges and past waterfalls with magnificent views along the way.

Not sure what to expect, but after waiting for the remaining tour passengers we set off for the Yukon in a comfortable coach. The scenery was breathtaking, the guide very informative and the trip to the end of the white pass narrow gauge railway worth every minute.
The return trip on the White Pass narrow gauge railway was for me the highlight of the day, cut into the mountainside in places the journey back to Scagway was an adventure. The train stopped in several places to collect hikers and eventually got back in time fora leisurely stroll back to the cruise ship and its departure.
The only down side of the trip was lunch at a place just outside of Carcross, take my advice and take your own! Despite being included, the "chicken and salad" were quite honestly some of the worst we have eaten.
Otherwise a must do trip!

This was a good trip and all the better for good weather - the views are spectacular. This is the most popular trip in Skagway and lots of cruiseliners stop here so there are lots of group bookings so it may be best to book tickets in advance.
