Domaine de Coat Amour
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Though it's a traditional French Manoir, Coat Amour is a little piece of gracious English country living in the middle of Brittany. The house is beautifully restored, the garden is wonderful, and relaxing on the terrace in the sunshine with a cup of tea was hard to beat. Jenny and Stafford couldn't have been better hosts. Our three days there were the perfect end to a lovely holiday. Thank you very much.

This is one of those places you will not forget - the style is superb, everything is total perfection, even bath salts ready for use and the water hot, bed was super comfortable and everything in its place. They were not doing supper that night and recommended a superb restaurant in Morlaix. The Breakfast was excellent I wish I could have eaten two of them. and stayed on another night. I will definitely be revisiting next year because their park and the country-side around is so interesting. What a super place.

We really enjoyed our stay at Manoir de Coat Amour. The building, the garden, the atmosphere and the really nice breakfasts made it a great place to stay. I don´t think that there is anything I could complain about :-) I would definitely recommend the Manoir.

We did have a wonderful two night stay here and found the accommodation to be suitable for our needs. jenny and Stafford are great hosts with a welcoming coffee and plenty of tips for days out and places to visit with an abundance of maps to help you along your way. The house is wonderfully maintained in beautiful grounds and despite what others have said below, we did enjoy the communal evening meal and had a lovely evening and breakfast with a family from Wales. However on reflection and from the other Chambre D'Hotes that we visited during that week, we did feel that the evening meal was overpriced. It was the most expensive and although it was good home cooking it really didnt on reflection seem to be value for money. A small point to make and should not deter from the fact that we really enjoyed our stay.

Thank you Potty Polly for your lovely review.

Jenny and I are aware that our all-inclusive price for dinners is higher than many other B&Bs, or indeed some restaurants. In response to your comments we should like to express our point of view.
On average 12 hours work is needed to serve dinner, irrespective of whether we cook for two, or in your particular case, seven people. The food cost per person was 15 euros and the six participating adults consumed four bottles of wine, an aperitif and coffee. We served you using silver cutlery, cut glass, linen napkins, with candles and fresh flowers, with a cheery disposition (I hope), privately, with no walking, no driving and no taxi charges. We think that our charge of 48 euros per adult for an all inclusive three course dinner is pretty fair.

We have never aimed to compete with the local restaurants. We serve, on demand, what we believe is good home cooking, using excellent quality home grown, or locally sourced materials. We have examined how we price our dinners a few times over the last eight years and always come to the same conclusion ~ it is difficult to keep an all inclusive dinner price low, make a profit and satisfy all of our clients. It is always possible for guests to walk into Morlaix and find a restaurant somewhere that will serve you something to eat costing less than at Coat Amour.

Jenny and Stafford welcomed four wet and weary cyclists with tea and an offer to dry out our cycle clothing over the Aga. This is the second time we have stayed in their beautiful home, which in itself says a lot about the comfort of the accommodation and the warmth of their hospitality. They gave us great recommendations on where to eat and were always willing to put themselves out to help with any problems.

We had a marvelous time at the Manoir de Coat Amour. Jenny and Stafford were superb. The degree of their concern was portrayed by an event of unique concern. My son and I went for a nice stroll to the city. When we returned Jenny and Stafford, cognizant of the fact that our car had not been driven that morning, had been waiting to start trimming the hedges. They did not start their duties, thinking that we were still sleeping upstairs...phenomenal. Thank you for your incredible hospitality. We will return, maybe for good.

We have just returned from spending a marvellous couple of days at this beautiful manor house near the fascinating old medieval town of Morlaix. It is situated in its own delightful grounds, around which we had a most pleasurable walk on the afternoon of our arrival, admiring the blossoming camelias, magnolias & daffodils, which had also been picked to make attractive floral arrangements around the house. The house and its decor are a tribute to the loving care which has been bestowed upon it by our hosts, Jenny & Stafford.

Right from the start, we were made to feel so welcome & comfortable at the Manoir de Coat Amour that we almost felt we were members of the family. The bedrooms were vast, with enormous en-suite bathrooms (a dramatic contrast from the poky Paris hotels we had just left), and the beds were delightfully comfortable. Breakfast was splendid; fresh croissants & bread accompanied by the speciality of the house: jams & conserves expertly made by Jenny from the produce of their lovely garden.

Our hosts made us feel that nothing was too much trouble for them; as well as being so friendly and sociable, they went the extra mile by making everything as easy as possible for the elderly parent we had brought with us. In addition, they became personally involved with our quest to discover a bit more about our family connection with the area, and we are exceedingly grateful to them for all the help they gave us with our mission.

We hope that we will be able to find some reason to return in the not too distant future, and will certainly be recommending their lovely manor house to our friends & family.
