“Good budget hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2012

Our room overlooked the main street and the estuary - we watched the cormorants on the duck house! Room was basic but clean - no frills - The total cost for 1 night with breakfast (excellant) came to 93 euros. The hotel is central to the town. The manager was very helpful and spoke good English.

Room Tip: Good views at the front of hotel

We turned up without booking at 07:30 pm and were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, who spoke good English and gave us a lovely room at the top of the building, with a pleasant view over the port of Morlaix. We had fund watching the cormorant that landed on the duck's house and spent about half an hour drying his wings and pruning his feathers...

The room was bright and spacious with two double beds (one large one and a smaller one) and one single bed. Good-size bathroom with handy handrails for drying all those shower towels. Spoilt for choice re: pillows (7 in total). Good breakfast in a spacious room on the ground floor with direct view on the port of Morlaix. Car parking is opposite the hotel alongside the busy street.

We did not mind walking up three flights of stairs to get to our room (we needed the exercise!) as there is no lift but the owners should think of installing one for those who would find it difficult to walk up all those stairs.

Also time to change these safety red doors that do not suit the style of this lovely former 19th century house. I know you have to comply with fire safety regulations but there are period doors available that will comply with them...!

Our room rate was 77 Euro + 9 Euro for breakfast, which we thought was a very good price. Morlaix is a delightful city with beautiful architecture. The hotel is also a good base to explore the North-Western region of Brittany (don't miss the Monts d'Arée = wonderful wilderness / reminded me of Scotland) and the many quirky villages with their oversized churches as well ornate calvaires (wayside crosses). You know you are in Roman Catholic territory...

Hotel room it's self was just a little cramped with a double and single bed but the bathroom was a delight . Nice view watching the ducks and geese.

In the bathroom I would advise a safety rail near the shower, for oldies like us.

After having rejected a hotel behind the tourist office because it was noisy, I was glad to be pointed in the direction of Hotel du Port. Traffic din is a big issue for me, and the helpful staff gave me a super quiet, large room with reading nook and big bath looking over a pretty courtyard to the rear of the hotel. Just what I wanted. The local "calvaires" (Guimiliau and St Thegonnec) have astonishingly ornate carvings and if you like flamboyant churches, you'll be amazed at what the villages around Morlaix offer. In the town, you can visit a multi-storeyed echoppe (merchant's house). Very helpful tourist office in a fabulous 16th C building in the middle of town.
From the station, you can catch a bus down the hill for one Euro. Otherwise it's a 10 minute or so walk.

Good, clean hotel with friendly receptionist who gave us a lovely room with a queen-size bed and a small terrace.
Above average breakfast. Parking is along the street in front of the hotel. Avoid the restaurant "Indochine" on the road towards the viaduct. It was terrible.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2008

Located at the edge of Morlaix, this hotel built in an old tobacco warehouse feels out of the way and is an easy walk to some good restaurants, a laundromat, and everything else. Many of the rooms look out onto the port and what looks like a cormorant nest house. The windows cut the outdoor sound, though there's little reason for them. The price was good, and I'd stay there again.

  • Liked — locaton and price
  • Disliked — Not big on charm, no elevator
