“Nice Place”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

We arrived at this hotel after a day's cycling. We had not pre-booked and were having some difficulty finding accommodation as a number of hotels and Chambres d'Hotes were already full so finding a room here was a great relief.

The room, if a bit dated, was very spaciuos and comfortable. It even had a small balcony which was a big plus.

More to the point for us, two cyclists, they had a garage with space dedicated for storing bikes so we took full advantage of this.

We had an excellent dinner in the hotel restaurant washed down with local wine from vineyards owned by the family that owned the hotel.

If cycling through the area again I would stay here but might book ahead next time.

Room Tip: A main road runs by the hotel so the North and South facing rooms are best with North facing rooms g...

We stayed here in a triple room for two nights. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was great. The view from the room was lovely, with the castle up on the hill and the rolling vineyards. The room itself was clean, very comfortable, with nice linens, plenty of space, and a great air conditioner. The hotel is perfectly situated in a small, non-touristy village, right on the Route des Vins, so getting to the other villages on the route with a car is a piece of cake. I highly recommend this hotel.

I think this must be the eighth time I have stayed here - usually once a year at this time. It is a traditional old hotel with some infuriating old ways (wifi almost never works and when it doesn't no one knows how to fix it; they never have diet Coke or any other diet drinks - I am diabetic and have asked every time we have been there and it has never been seen as important! This time still no diet drinks). Having said that, it is in fact its old world charm that keeps us coming back - the hotel has magnificenet views across the village and vineyards to the wonderful castle above. It is a quiet place to chill out after hectic days at the nearby Mineral and Fossil Fair at St Marie-aux-Mines. It is right at the heart of the Alsace wine route and you could really do much worse!

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a castle view, the higher floors offer better views.

This charming hotel is owned and run by the Meyer Munsch family, who make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. The hotel building is typical of the Alsace architecture, and the rooms have been tastefully furnished to compliment that style. Ours was a suite with balcony and views over the. Village of St Hippolyte and the vineyards that seem to over every available slope in the area. The beds are well appointed, clean and comfortable though I thought my pillow was a bit hard. The restaurant offers a good menu and excellent wine list featuring local wines though you do also have the chance to drink wine from other regions if you wish. The location is ideal if you wish to visit the picturesque villages of the Alsace, tour the Alsace Wine Route, or visit Haut Konigsbourg. A car is a must for getting around but the region is worth a visit this hotel is a good base from which to set off.

In an old world style, Aux Ducs de Lorraine Hotel has comfortable rooms, great service, and an excellent location on the vineyards of Saint Hippolyte. There is small park next to the hotel's parking area, restaurants, and a boulangerie within walking distance. We passed over the hotel's breakfast to have a nostalgic breakfast at the Norbert (we had breakfast there 10 years ago) in Bergheim a few minutes away for Saint Hippolyte.

We were at the first floor, but had a great view on the wineyards and the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle.
The breakfast is not cheap (12€), so we found the boulangerie at the upper side of the road, in St-Hippolyte, 10' walk. The food is fine but not so original, and not so cheap.
Ideally located on the wine road, near the Haut-Koenigsbourg, Riquewihr, Hunawihr, Montagne des Singes, Volerie des aigles. 45' from Strasbourg, 30' from Colmar, supermarket at Selestat 10'.
A great stay, a little overpriced, but in high season, I guess it's acceptable. I would go back again if I could.

Room Tip: Prefer high quality rooms, as they are in the old-typical part with balcony.

On arrival, this hotel ticked all the boxes. We found the hotel very easily, parking could not be simpler and the reception helpful and informative. An offer of assistance with our luggage!. Lift to second floor to our room, which revealed a spectacular view over the vinyards up twoards the hilltop Chateau of Haut-Koenigsbourg. The room was adquate, some might say dated, but I am quite happy with that. The windows and balcoy door were alluminium framed which in this age was a surprise. A balcony with seats overlooked the view previously described.
The title to this review reflects the lighting in the toilet and seperate bathroom. Just about adequate in the toilet, it was woefully lacking in the bathroom. Lights were fixed over the mirror and sink, but that served the bath as well, thus resulting in a dark ill lit room. A hand held (only) showerhead for those preferring showers, but no shower curtain.
The restaurant, service therein and the menus were in all cases excellent. We chose to go half-board, which with five courses proved to be one of the best meals we have had using such an arrangement. Even allowing for one course substitution, which was clearly not a problem to the staff. We were at all times made to feel most welcome.
The hotel set on the Route des VINS is a worthy halt for a few nights if exploring this lovely countryside.
