“An interesting start to our Costa Rica Vacation.”
Reviewed January 26, 2010

I stayed at the Villa Blanca with my nine year old son for the first two nights of our Costa Rican vacation. We stayed in a comfortable, nicely furnished casita. We toured the grounds using these cool walking sticks they provide. We visited their dairy farm and my son got to milk a cow for the first time. The fresh cow's milk was delicious. They show environmentally educational documentaries every night at 5:30PM, which was a perfect thing to do before dinner. Food was good. We had a great time on the nearby canopy tour, although I have heard that the one with the tarzan bridge is even better. Hotel is very child-friendly. Lots of other families there.
Being in a cloud forest is a bit other-worldly. Very relaxing, though. We needed long pants and sweaters, so be sure to bring some warm clothes, particularly for at night. The best moment came at breakfast the morning that we left. The sky was clear blue, which I don't think happens very often or lasts very long. However, as a result, there was an amazing view of the Arenal volcano. A real treat.
It is an hour and a half drive from the San Jose International Airport to the Villa Blanca, which is not too bad. From there, it was a very scenic three hour drive to Manuel Antonio. Villa Blanca arranged our transportation and all went smoothly.

This hotel was calm, quiet and relaxing the minute we stepped foot on the property. The drive to the hotel was a unique and bumpy experience, but when we finally got there we loved it.
Villa Blanca has a luxurious cabin feel and it is a very different part of Costa Rica that everyone should see. The rooms are comfortable and cozy and our shower was huge! The staff was so welcoming and friendly, not only did we thoroughly enjoy the service, we also enjoyed their company. We sat and talked to a few members on the staff for awhile and they seemed like friends. The food and wine here was some of the best we had all week and we were so grateful that they grow a lot of their own food organically. The cloud forest is a beauty and we loved how peaceful it was on the grounds. The chapel was a neat thing to see and the forests were enjoyable to take a short hike through. We only stayed a night and my only compliant is that we should have stayed longer.

We stayed 1 night at this hotel as part of our tour round Costa Rica. It is a lovely hotel, with clean, very well decorated bungalows and nice grounds.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the guide we got for our tours was very knowledgeable and obvioulsy enjoys what he does.

The daytime walk through the forest was part of our tour and although a nice walk, we saw little apart from the flora, fauna and birds but we also paid for a night walk ($56 for both of us) which was worth every penny. Frogs, tarantula, lizards, huge millipedes, moths, bats, etc. Every time we moved the torch, something new popped up.

The bar area and restaurant were very pleasant with good staff and good food.

This is a cloud forest, so not the place to stay if you're expecting sunshine or don't like bugs, although our rooms were completely bug free.

Although it's lovely, one or two nights at this hotel is sufficient as you'd need to travel to get to any other places of interest.

Wow, this place is fantastic! We were debating about Villa Blanca versus going to Monteverde but we are so glad we went to Villa Blanca. The staff is great, the setting is gorgeous and it is so relaxing. Food in the dining room was good and the staff does everything possible to be helpful. The nature walks were so much fun and our guides were friendly and helpful.

We loved this hotel. the casitas were lovely especially enjoyed the fireplace. The staff were pleasant & friendly, went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Food was excellent.
It's about 20-30 minutes out of san ramon, so probably easier to eat lunch in town & have dinner on site. The road leading in has alot to do, we enjoyed the horse back riding.
Also has a nice view of Arenal and would definitely recommend the Nature tour & Night nature tour.

This hotel was very nice. The staff was very courteous and spoke english. The food was really good although it wasn't always exactly what the menu said it would be. It's a great way to see a cloud forest. We wandered the grounds on our own and saw lots of wildlife. The church on the site is really pretty. It would be a great place to have a wedding. There are neat hand painted tiles on the ceiling inside. We stayed in our own little house there and it had a huge hot tub which was great. The only bad thing I could say is that our flight was late and we ended up driving part of the way there in the dark. It's in a remote area with twisty narrow roads - some on the sides of mountains - which made us a little nervous. A lot of the roads in Costa Rica are terrible with potholes. They have a little green house with orchids. If you are looking for luxury, this isn't exactly it... there were some bugs/spiders in our room. It was perfect for us. The stove/fireplace in our room was really a nice touch. Beautiful views from the upstairs in the lodge which had reading and gathering areas and a pool table.

This place was fabulous! Perfectly quiet, romantic, and peaceful. No loud people or kids, no swimming pool or loud bar. The spa was fantastic. I strongly recommend the hot lava rock couples massage. Truly a secluded get-a-way!
