We took a small boat tour that included lunch very close to the Holgate Glacier. It was incredibly serene, floating in the ice chuck filled water until the glacier got ready to calve. What a noise- almost like thunder at times and what a sight as all that ice crashed into the water. An amazing experience.

Photos do not do the glacier justice when it comes to size. Holgate was calving frequently while we were there and the sights and sounds were awesome; it fulfilled a long-time wish to see something like this close up.

Holgate glacier is cold. There was some serious calving going on with lots of glacier popping noises. Some harbor seals were on floes, but no pups. There were a few otters around , also. It is a great spot. Plan on wearing many layers.

Seriously? I know it's getting smaller, but for now, there's still something to see. Maybe you'll get lucky and it won't be raining.

We saw lots of wild life and made wonderful friends on the cruise. The food was great and we especially enjoyed the Arctic ice drinks.
