“Great place to stay in Seward”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2011

We had a wonderful stay with Soo in her B & B. The rooms made have been very sparse but that is quite typical of Alaska accomadations. The breakfasts we had were plentiful and quite delicious. She is a very nice woman who cares about her guests. Soo was able to get us discounts on a variety of attractions in the area. She gave us good advice on things to do and places to eat. I would definitely stay here again. Yes, there is a for sale sign up, but she hopes the new owner will allow her to continue to operate the B& B if she does sell the house.

The reviews left us uncertain about Soo's. Soo is originally from South Korea and initially presents a brusque front typical of Asia. Her accent is difficult at first but she is a kind and helpful person who would be welcome in our home.

The accommodation is modern, sparkling clean and comfortable. The breakfast is plentiful, perfectly prepared and would be difficult to improve.

Seward itself is a place that has been improved over recent years but must have been dreary in the past. Soo's is ideally located for an easy walk to town, cafes, excursions, boats etc.

Soo's was the best place that we stayed during a two week trip around Alaska.

I can't believe we stayed in the same place as some of these reviews. From my first phone call to make the reservation until the time we left, we had nothing but bad experiences. The room was ugly and poorly appointed. Soo was rude beyond belief. Our "hot" breakfast consisted of COLD eggs, gelatinous cold sausage and left over pre-buttered toast. This was a truly horrible experience, mad even worse by the impolite treatment of the owner. AND we were charged far to much for the value (1/2 again as much as TripAdvisor quotes.) There is a "For Sale" sign on the property - obviously Soo is only interested in quick profits - not in forging relationships.

We stayed only one night at Soo's before we headed out for four days of kayaking, and I wish we could have stayed longer. She literally opens her house up to you and it is sparkling clean and very beautiful. We had a bedroom upstairs with a bathroom that allowed us plenty of room to spread out and repack our gear. We had an early pickup, so Soo made us a plate of breakfast breads to take with us (there was more than enough for us and everyone else on the boat!). She was a delightful hostess and I loved just standing around talking to her. If you are tired of hotel rooms and want something comfortable and homey, go to Soo's!

We stayed at Soo's (in the yellow house) for 3 nights during our recent trip.

Pros: The rooms were nice and the place was tidy. Having the living room space was useful. The breakfast spread each morning was good and definitely kept us going for the rest of the day. She was accommodating of some of our requests.

Cons: She can be a little "strict"- she did not want us to use the kitchen area because she did not want to clean it. Compared to other B&Bs we've stayed at, Soo did not provide much information about places to see or things to do or history/culture of the place.

Overall, it felt more like staying at a hotel than staying at a B&B.

I spent a long time deciding on accommodation in Seward and I am so glad I finally settled on Soo's Bed and Breakfast.

The location is within walking distance of both ends of town and is a lovely home. The room I stayed in was large with its own bathroom on the ground floor and was beautiful. I liked it very much. It was so clean and well appointed. There was also free high speed internet.

Soo makes a lovely breakfast with cooked savoury and sweet ingredients - I really enjoyed her cooking and something she called 'Soo's special' - a dessert type of dish a bit like trifle or cobbler or something.

Soo is lovely - she did my laundry for me while I spent the day looking around town and visting the sea life institute and then gave me a lift to my cruise ship even though she was expecting another guest. I think she ironed or pressed every item she washed - I was so pleased to receive lovely, clean, folded clothes. She didn't have to do any of it and it was done so perfectly. She is certainly a woman with high standards and her entire home reflects this.

I would stay at Soo's again and for longer - it was a lovely place to stay in a lovely town.

Seward was our first destination in Alaska and our stay at Soo's definitely made it our favorite spot so far. Her home is absolutely beautiful and very clean. The room we had was cosy and private from the other guests. Breakfast in the morning was great-- we ate so well that we even managed to skip lunch. We also had the opportunity to try reindeer sausages as part of the menu and korean sushi which was fantastic.

We felt very welcomed and at home at Soo's and would highly recommend her B&B to everyone!
