“Good food, if not outstanding”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

This was the third time we ate at this restaurant. We both agreed that it was OK, but we'll look elsewhere on our next trip to Seward. Prices are a bit high for the quality of food, but that's typical for Alaska. Food was good without being delicious. Drinks were served in mason jars to complement the rustic theme of the building and furnishings. The setting for the restaurant was appealing.
No definite dislikes, nor raves from us.

“Best in Seward, and quite possibly the Best in Alaska!”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We were fortunate enough to be in town when this place was first getting going a decade ago. When we got back this August it was well established, and even more highly regarded. Everyone in town told us this was the place to go, which we were already planning on anyway so it was a no-brainer.

Happy to report that this place still sets the bar high. The atmosphere is lodge-ish, casual but nice. A small bar as you walk in so you can have a cold one if you need to wait. (Can get crowded but the waits are never long...15-20 minutes or so). The food is decidedly seafood but with a number of good non-fish options (Steaks, pastas, etc.) for those who don't partake. My oldest son and I did the Salmon bake dinner all three nights (Yes we actually went there three nights in a row which is very uncharacteristic for us. We like to explore. But the food was that good!). The Salmon Bake dinner includes a nice sized piece of fresh Red Salmon right out of Resurrection Bay, cornbread and two sides (baked potato, nice corn medley, rice, etc.) all for $26, which if you do any travelling in Alaska you know is a good price if the food is good and the portions are sizeable. We ordered our salmon grilled and it was cooked to perfection. A light glaze on top, that crisped up ever so slightly without overcooking the fish itself (I HATE overcooked salmon!!!). My wife had a nice piece of fish over a large salad for around $19. She rotated back and forth between the halibut and salmon and loved both. And our youngest was able to order off of the kids menu which was also a treat.

Service was always with a smile and they were willing to accommodate just about any special request we had. Good selection of local beers on tap, and a variety of wines completed what was almost a perfect Alaskan meal. Like I said, we ate there three nights in a row and everyone in the family was on board with this. When we would get close to dinner we would start rattling off the other noted restaurants around Seward...Rays (we ate here on a previous visit...decent but over-priced), Chinooks, etc...but we always ended up back at this place. And anytime we told the locals this, they all responded the same way..."you made the right choice!" We thought so too. We even met some friends we had made earlier in our travels in Wrangell- St. Elias and they showed up on nights 1 AND 3, so we weren't the only repeat customers! Everywhere else we travelled, we kept wishing there was a Salmon Bake style/quality restaurant in town. We had some good meals elsewhere, but the combination of food, beer, atmosphere, quality and value were never reproduced. Needless to say, we will be back...and quite possibly more than once!

“Not many options for food in Seward, this is probably good as any”
Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

We found the service to be horrible, the prices high and the restaurant not too clean. But this is kind of the way it is in alaska. I did my see any other options in Seward that would be any better.

“Great salmon, great atmosphere!”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

We ate at the Salmon Bake mid-July based on the reviews. It exceeded our expectations! The food was very food and the atmosphere just right. Very laid back and casual. We off course had the salmon bake which was delicious. We also tried the halibut quesadillas. They had a little kick. We really liked it. What did it for us was the staff. The bar tender was very friendly and our waitress was great. She told us about the area, how she ended up in Alaska and what she likes about Seward. It was one of the best dinners we had in Alaska!

“Best salmon I have ever eaten”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

We stopped here to have dinner because we had heard the salmon was great. It is, it is. I have eaten salmon in many places because it is my favorite meal. This is the best I ever had. It was so good, that in spite of the salmon plate costing $26, my wife and I came back a second time. It was just as good the second time. The restaurant is a pleasant place to eat with good service. If you are in Seward, eat at this restuarant. We had baked potato and baked beans for side dishes and liked them both.
