Description: Chinooks is located right on Seward's waterfront. Serving a Fresh menu of Alasaka's best seafood. Also serving Steaks and options for vegetarians and gluten free options. A new Sushi bar has been placed upstairs near our huge picture windows to enjoy. We have 12 Alaskan brewed beers on tap with a full bar of premium hard to find spirits, and one of the best Scotch selections in Alaska. A worldly, yet well rounded wine selection is also available.

We try to visit Seward at least once a year since moving to Alaska 8 years ago, but we had never tried Chinooks until now. We were pleasantly surprised! It is the beginning of the tourist season, but we were seated immediately and had wonderful service. We were with our 2 year old daughter, and it was kid friendly. I would call the atmosphere upscale casual. We got a table right at the window and our daughter enjoyed watching an otter swimming around just outside the window. They have great wine and beer selections. We had the pecan crusted cod and veggie mac and cheese, and we loved our dishes! We also had the southwest ceasar salad, and it was very good. We shared a very delicious goat cheesecake for dessert. We had a wonderful time and a wonderful meal, and would highly recommend Chinooks.

You might think going to such a small town you might not get quality and gourmet food - you would be wrong. I ate there twice during my stay and it was amazing!

This was one of the few restaurants open a week before the true tourist season begins and they seemed a bit busier than they expected to be. Was quoted a wait of 5 to 20 minutes as they were trying to open another section of the dining room. We were seated at window that overlooked the harbor - beautiful! They were still using the winter seasonal menu which was small but has a lot of variety. Started with Cajun corndogs which were just ok & the mustard dip over powered all other flavors. I had the ribeye steak - large & excellent! It came with mashed potatoes ( just ok) and seasonal veggies which turned out to be a unique mix of cabbage, brussel sprouts, onions and kale (I think) - very unexpected and good. Hubby had pecan crusted halibut, mash yams (better than the potatoes) with seasonal veggies. They have a good wine & drink list. We shared a glass of wine to start & would have ordered more if the server had reappeared; again they seemed busier than expected.

For such a touristed town right on the water, Seward is surprisingly lacking in truly good eats. Chinook's is probably the best option though. Meals lean toward the 'foodie' side of preparation. My friends & I have eaten there a couple of times, and enjoy the food. My meal yesterday was the veggie mac and cheese, which was delicious with the kale. Staff is friendly and efficient. The view from the restaurant is fantastic, and the interior is attractive. Lots of adult beverages on the menu, and the bartender made a good sidecar, which lots of bartenders screw up.

Negatives? Mainly price. $16 for a bowl of mac & cheese with onions and kale is a bit high. It's mac & cheese for crying out loud.

Delicious food and a great beer selection. We took our two year old and the staff was so friendly and helpful (with regards to his giant mess and regular two year old needs, lol). They had crayons/paper for him, a drink with a lid and a (rather spendy) child's menu selection. We will be visiting there again on our next trip! So good!
