“what a view!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2008

What a wonderful place! the cabin was beautiful, the view spectacular! sitting out on the porch looking at Resurrection Bay and the mountains or sitting inside on very comfortable rocking chairs/lying in bed overlooking the same view! The owners could not have been more responsive, but left us to our privacy as well. The drive there leaves a little to be desired, a terrible road and the surroundings initially make you think that perhaps you've chosen the wrong location. However, once you get to the cabin you forget all that in a heartbeat! The name fits the place perfectly -- I could not recommend this more highly and I would go back in a minute!

This is a wonderful place to stay just outside Seward. It's a ten minute drive along the water, next to Miller's Landing and an RV Park. Don't worry, you won't hear any noise from the RV folks but
you are a few hundred feet from where they stay.

The view is phenomenal since the cabin is right on the water.
Snow capped mountains above the beautiful ocean.

My wife and I saw lots of ocean wildlife right outside our picture windows which were directly in front of our bed! A pair of great binoculars are provided if you don't have your own and there are lots of travel and nature guides.

The place is very clean and pretty. No doubt, attention has been paid to details. We even had flannel sheets on the bed! The heater works great so don't worry if you are there when it's cold.

Two downsides but they are minor. The TV is only hooked up to a DVD player so no cable or DISH. Some would say this is a plus but it would have been nice to get the nightly news. Perhaps a big antenna would bring in a channel or two. It worked at our cabin in Homer. The other downside was construction at the
owner's property but it wasn't too early or too late so it didn't bother us but you might want to ask about it before you book.

Good luck,
Hollywood Howie

P.S. In town we did the Renown 6 hour boat ride. We saw lots of Orcas, Humpbacks, Puffins (birds) seals etc. Nice trip but we only saw one glacier (Hubbard) so if glaciers are your thing go on a trip to Prince William Sound from Whittier. The Seward Aquarium was okay but too expensive. Coupons for both in the TourSaver book. Google them to check out there website to see if the book is for you. We saved hundreds of dollars.

I feel as though anything i say about our stay at the WIng Cabin at Angels Rest on Resurrection Bay would fail to do it justice. From the moment we arrived we were treated to the sound of the waves lapping the shore, the calm serenity of the location and the cabin itself which was perfect! The cabin has everything you could want, from a small kitchen (including a microwave and small fridge too!) A great deck and BBQ, and even a fire pit for a campfire should you be moved to watch a fire as you hear the water, as i was! We found the entire experience to be both relaxing and romantic! The owners and hosts of our stay were kind enough accomodate us as we ended up being late for check in, and warm and friendly when we finally were able to see each other! I had requested extra blankets when we booked the cabin back in February and when we arrived there they were beside the bed!! We were a stones throw from Millers Landing should you want to go out fishing or kayak (we took a guided kayak to Bridal Falls which was amazing!) And were close to downtown Seward should you need anything from dinner at a local restaurant to a cruise to the glaciers! (we went with Renown Tours, which was a wonderful day on the water! we saw everything from orcas to sea lions, breaching humpbacks to jumping silver salmon!) Overall, i would give this cabin and company a perfect rating! I coudn't dream of anything to change, except the weather perhaps, but hey, a little rain on a cabin roof sounds great in the morning from a cozy bed!

We stayed at "The Gate," a beachfront and very comfortable cabin. Incredible ambiance and view, only 8 minutes or so from downtown Seward. The road is fine!

Our 2 night stay (first night in the Gatehouse and second in the Wing Cabin) was great, but much too short. Both cabins were cozy and equipped with everything we needed. It's not every morning that you awake in your bed to a view of snow covered peaks across the bay. We didn't even miss our evening TV because there was a good selection of Alaskan videos (bears and wildlife, Gold Rush and mining, etc.). We recommend the 6-hour Renown Kenai Fjords National Park tour with sitings of a Humpback whale, Orcas, Dall's porpoises, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, puffins, bald eagles, Dall sheep, and of course, the Aialik glacier's calving. Don't forget to puchase your Alaskan Tour Saver book to get your 2 for 1 coupons which are a great savings.

I would highly recommend these cabins to anyone who "loves a room with an outstanding view" and wants a "peaceful" night's sleep. We've stayed at many places thoughout the US, and this was by far one of the best.

Our 3 night visit wasn't long enough! This is a lovely cabin with amazing views - and the road has definitely improved since a previous reviewer's comments - it's unpaved but plenty wide. The hosts made themselves available if needed but otherwise we appreciated the privacy. I would also recommend the full day Major Marine boat tour - we saw 2 orca pods up close, bear, mountain goats, puffins, eagles and sea lions. When we return to Alaska, we will definitely try to stay here again.

We stayed in the Gatehouse at Angel's Rest for 4 nights during early August 2005. We would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Gatehouse to anyone, and would love to stay there ourselves again.

The worst part of the Gatehouse is getting there. You have to take an unpaved, narrow, bumpy road with no guardrails down along the bay. Some drivers take their half out of the middle. When we first arrived and had to drive down this road, it was pretty annoying. We pulled up to the cabin, feeling like "This better be worth that drive!" and then we walked into the cabin. We took one look at the view and all our irritation vanished. The view, oh my, the view. The glacier blue of Resurrection Bay, the dark pebbled beach, the sea birds, the rolling fog ... it is simply one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen in my whole life.

The Gatehouse cabin is right on the water, obviously, and shares a private stairwell with the other Angel's Rest cabin, the Wing House, down to the beach. The beach was very quiet with a bit of foot traffic, but not much. The actual cabin grounds were gorgeous, full of flowers in bloom even in August. The house next door was pretty trashy looking, but I only noticed it a few times. The area is quiet and peaceful.

The actual cabin is described as "luxury" and I would not argue with that. It's all wood, some hand carved, with expensive furnishings. All extremely clean and very new. The cabin is only meant for 2 people. The kitchen is a bit small with a small 2-burner stove and small refrigerator, but we got along in it just fine. We bought most of our food at the local Safeway and had dinner at the cabin - with a view like this, why eat anywhere else?

We did have two minor complaints about the cabin. The first is that the grill didn't work. The second is that the owners were not really available when you needed them. The first night, we needed extra blankets and had to leave several messages on their phone. They did eventually get us the blankets, but I think the first night especially, they should make themselves more available to you.

I would HIGHLY recommend Angel's Rest waterfront cabins (I know nothing about their other cabin in the woods). Every evening we would take a long walk on the beach, listening to the waves, hearing the birds, it was just so beautiful. I'd jog on the beach in the morning, with the flowers blooming everywhere and the blue sky and ice blue water just gleaming. The beauty was overwhelming. Why stay in downtown Seward, which frankly is dumpy, when you can stay in such a fantastic state of nature?
