When we arrived in Seward, we were told that our hotel reservation through Booking.com was not valid. (Long story and won't go into here). Lucky for us the management was able to get us two nights in the Tree House room at Le Barn Appetit. This place is an adventure. The Tree House is built around a tree so the house does sway at times. We were told this at check in and found it fun rather than bothersome. It is not a huge room but perfect for my husband, myself and my son. My son slept in an upstairs loft. Perfect for older kids but probably not toddlers or sleepwalkers! I saw the review below complaining about it being cold and the bathroom door being odd. We used the heater and were very comfortable. The bathroom door is a bit odd but we have seen these types of doors in other homes. Janet and Yvon, the owners, make the experience. They are very kind and funny. The crepes and waffles are amazing. We ate every bite despite being full b/c they were so good. There is a fire ring outside with plenty of wood. We sat and chatted with other guests long into the evening. You will need a car as this place is outside of Seward. Very eclectic. Not you sterile Motel experience. No fancy fluffy towels or turn down service but you can get that anywhere. Janet and Yvon you will not get everywhere.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Welcome to Le Barn Appetit, the first creperie in all of Alaska, was created in 1987 by Yvon and Janet van Driessche, your hosts, and their children. We built the original four-story barn (Belgian-style) which is the tallest building in Seward. Besides the main barn building, there is the "Tree House" and the newest "Jack London's Cabin". We are a B&B/Inn and our hosted guests can be small or large groups. We have cable and free Wi-Fi available to our guests in many of our rooms. With spacious clean rooms, each chamber has a theme with genuine objects to match their stories. Our Inn guests sleep comfortably, and receive a 20% discount for their Crepe breakfasts. Anyone with gluten difficulties, we also use Sarasin (Buckwheat) for gluten-free crepes. Come witness the creation of our gourmet Belgian crepes prepared before your eyes to your liking on our custom Creperie created in the summer of 2004. Try Janet's rich Belgian waffles made from scratch with fresh fruit in season, topped with all the other fixings. Breakfast, meal crepes, and dessert crepes are available to the general public. We are open daily form 7AM to 4 PM. Families are welcome ... more less
