“Good times in a magical setting”
Reviewed July 30, 2010

The Abode Well Cabins, convenient to Seward and set in a magical forest are private, clean and very comfortable. Mitch Seaveys Kennels and the Iditaride Tour was fun and informative. We highly recommend this to everyone young and old.

We loved this cabin! (It was a queen or couples cabin.) The inside had wood beams and knotty pine throughout. Felt like we were staying in a mini lodge. Everything was clean and in good condition. There was a little fridge and coffee pot but no microwave. There are only 7 cabins and they are each in their own little wooded area. This is connected with an Iditerod dog kennel so we did hear dogs far off. At times they were barking so much that it sounded like when a huge flock of geese go overhead. I only heard this outside, not inside. This is located outside of Seward, so if you don't have a car... It was a great place to stay. As a cabin customer, you also get a discount on the sled dog kennel tour and ride. We had an excellent and knowledgeable guide, Nina. The ride was 2 miles and really fun. This place was a gem.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights prior to our cruise. The cabins were fantastic! Very much in the middle of no where, but that is what we wanted. The cabins were beautiful. Very well maintained. No staff on site, but there is an office with a laundry, microwave, phone and computer for internet access. All free with your stay, as well as supplies, coffee, tea, etc. There is daily maid service if you want it. Our young lady stopped us on the way out to tell us to be careful of the bears that had been spotted around the cabins the night before. Getting back that night after sightseeing, we actually saw an adorable bear cub right outside our front door! Very cool until we realized mama must be close. Regardless, a once in a lifetime encounter. There are six couples cabins and a larger fully equipped family cabin. Next time we are getting the family cabin and staying for a couple of weeks!! Highly recommend these cabins. By the way, the dog sled tours run by the owners, was by far the best we had in Alaska, including the cruise.

These cozy cabins do not have staff on site. They are owned/ managed by people who also own a sled dog kennel a short distance away. The cabins are small but quaint and cozy. I appreciate the natural, rustic look but thorny shrubs (stinging nettle?) almost completely enclose the cabins and should be trimmed back. I don't expect landscaping, but still, something needs to be done. The sled dog kennel is a short distance away through the woods. The dogs barked or howled nearly continuously. It was far enough away, that I could not hear them at night with the windows shut.
