Havenwood Guest House

Havenwood is an exceptional place to stay. It has a full kitchen with all of the amenities necessary. Plenty of room to move around and plenty of sleeping areas. A number of the beds are in the loft, and it can be difficult getting suitcases up into the loft and down. That's where the younger adults or children come in handy. Since there were 5 of us adults, the younger set was in the loft, and we older folks slept in the separate bedroom on the main floor. There is a washer and dryer in the guesthouse for guests' use plus we had use of the hot tub and BBQ. The owners want to make each guests' stay a most enjoyable one, and they do an incredible job at it. It truly is a "home away from home."

Perfect place to stay if dirt and hair are not a priority. We would not stay here again because of the hair in bathroom left from prevous guests. We would give it 5 stars if it was clean. Owners very very nice. Place could be perfect after cleaned.

We absolutely loved staying at the Havenwood Guest House. It was the best place we stayed in Alaska. The hosts are very welcoming and make you feel at home (Karen even made us fresh baked goods everyday). The entire placed is remarkably furnished with very comfortable beds and furniture. Everything was very clean. The guesthouse included many extra perks that many places do not have such as a full sized kitchen which makes cooking very easy (there's a Safeway down the road for groceries), grill, hot tub, Wi-Fi, washer/dryer, and once again great hosts. We comfortably stayed for 3 nights with 6 adults. We wished we could take the Havenwood Guest House to every place we visited in Alaska. This is THE place to stay if you're visiting Seward.

I was looking for a place in Seward that had a full kitchen, hot tub, two queen beds, and was open for the winter. This was so difficult to find! It took me hours of looking, but I finally found Havenwood Guest House, and I'm so glad! Havenwood is off the beaten path in Seward in a lovely little neighborhood with excellent views of the mountains. The guest house is great--lots of room, excellent kitchen, wonderful comfortable beds, and even a washer and dryer in the bathroom. The hot tub was excellent, even when it was 25 degrees outside, and we loved cooking breakfast while watching the sun rise on the snow-covered mountains. Karen even brought us yummy chocolate-chip cookies to welcome us to the guesthouse. An overall fabulous experience!

This was the last place we stayed on our trip, and we were glad we saved the best for last. This place is well taken care of and obviously loved by the owners. We didn't realize that it was actually attached to the owners' home, but it worked out well - there's a shared entry area for you and the owners, but it's somehow not awkward. Plus, having them close means that they can take care of any problems right away, and it's apparent that they do. They also keep it fully stocked with dishes, cookware, non-perishable food items, etc. And everything (and I do mean everything) was labeled, which saved us a ton of time when we were trying to find things.

There are a few things I'd have done differently, though. For one, there's only one bathroom. For a place that sleeps 4-6, you'd expect 2. This seem to be about par for the course in alaska, though. Also, I know one of the problems with lofts is that they have steep stairs, but these were about the steepest I've seen. Don't expect any older adults or younger kids to be able to get up and down them without any problems. Also, the loft would be much more functional if it were enclosed than it is right now, open to the main living area. It would be a little bit of an engineering challenge, but certainly not too difficult. The location is also only ok - it's about 10-15 minutes outside of town, on a gravel road. No problem finding it, just a little ways out.

I've been a little hard on the loft, but let me say that it has one of the best beds I've ever slept on - a memory foam bed. I've spent a little time harping on the things I would change, but I'll point out that those were the only things I could wrong with this place. Everything else was pretty much perfect. I'd absolutely recommend this guest house, and will stay there again if we go back.

This was such a wonderful place to stay. It had all the amenities you could want including a loaded spice rack. Our hosts were helpful without being intrusive. We were only a few minutes from all the things to do at Seward but yet it was an extremely quiet setting. We traveled with our daughter and son-in-law and they stayed in the loft bedroom. The beds were extremely comfortable. We truly loved all the home baked treats. Our only complaint was the stairs to the loft were vary steep. Hard to get luggage up and down and hard on the feet climbing up.

When my husband and I were making plans to travel to Alaska, our 25 year old son wanted to tag along. We had first made plans to stay in Denali and decided if he was going to come along, we wanted him to experience the beautiful shores of Alaska and see a glacier calving. So we decided to go a few days sooner and add Seward to our vacation plans. We found Havenwood and as luck would have it..there were a couple of nights that fit perfectly into our schedule. Havenwood is a little piece of heaven on earth!! It is set in a lovely wooded area just minutes from town. It is easy to find and so peaceful. The kitchen is well stocked and the beds are extremely comfortable. It is very clean and has all the comforts of home. It was so relaxing to be able to climb into the hot tub after arriving early that morning on a red eye flight and driving from Anchorage. Karen is a doll and made us home baked goodies (we really appreciated the home made muffins the morning we set out early to catch an early boat tour into the Kenai Fjords). We recommend Havenwood to anyone traveling with family or for couples looking for a cool place to hang out!! We will definitely stay here again!!
