My 70-year-old mother and I stayed here in Den 2 for five nights, and what a pleasure it was! The place was very clean, there was a plate of fresh cookies waiting for us, and it was very cozy. The basket of bakery and bread, yogurt and juice/milk in the fridge, and especially the option for grinding your own coffee all added up to a comfortable and welcoming experience. The location is very close to downtown, glacier cruise docks, and the grocery store. The only small thing was that we were there for two nights before we met our hosts, and would have liked to have the opportunity to ask for restaurant recommendations and the like. There is no phone here, and my cell phone did not work in Seward, so we had no way to contact them except by leaving notes on their door. But this was a small issue, and we highly recommend the Bears Den to anyone traveling to Seward fo any length of time!

Our family has traveled and lived all over the world and we've stayed in some pretty spectacular places. Sure, I like to occasionally indulge my inner princess when it comes to a world class hotel, but what really tickles my toes, is staying in a place run by folks who truly understand the fine art of hospitality. The Bear's Den delivers. It is run with loving care by a family who has anticipated their guests needs by providing exceptionally well equipped "Dens" that are extremely clean, stocked with everything you may need and filled with a self-catering breakfast sure to please even the most picky eater. Plus, we were greeted with a friendly welcome and a plate of homemade cookies my boys are talking about to this day. Another nice feature, each unit has its' own entrance, so it feels really private and independent - which we enjoyed. I'd go back in a heartbeat, and I hope dear reader, you give Bear's Den your serious consideration. Seward is spectacular and your stay here will make it even sweeter!

We stayed in the Bear’s Den for 2 nights in August, and we were so pleased with our choice! We stayed in the upstairs den, with 3 bedrooms and a common living area. We were there with my parents, and the 4 of us could not have been more comfortable. Very clean, nicely decorated (bear theme!), and so comfortable. There was ample room, a well-stocked kitchen with all of the cookware we needed, and an outside grill where we cooked our fish. The grocery store is a short walk away. You can also walk down and across to some touristy shops, etc. Nothing is far away. It’s at the edge of a residential area, and you can easily walk in any direction, which we enjoyed. Saw a bald eagle not far away. The "breakfast basket" that we got more than amply provided for our breakfasts!

We had a nice visit to Seward, as a whole, and having the Bear’s Den was a perfect home base. Seeing the wildlife museum, shopping along the main street, and checking out the restaurants was enjoyable. We took a terrific tour (the longest tour, smallest boat, and most $$-- and worth every penny) with Kenai Fjords Tours, and we saw everything we’d hoped for: whales (both baleen and killer), otters, puffins, glaciers. Very professionally run company. I’m a biologist, and I was impressed! We were fortunate to have a sunny, rather calm day, and it was a super trip. I would highly recommend including Seward in a trip to this part of AK, and would stay at the Bear’s Den again. Great place to stay, very reasonably priced, good location; everything you could want!

Stayed here 3 nights, Aug 16-18 with a friend. We had Den 1, with the balcony. The one room suite had great light, comfy beds, 2 wonderful recliners, a sofa, and a kitchenette area. The decor was a bit dated, but that does not really bother me. The space and comfort were really the key items. The location was convenient, just by the boat harbor. We walked to dinner and to our Kenai Fjords boat cruise. The breakfast was given to us ahead of time, and we could eat whenever we wanted. Just pastry, toast, etc. Nothing hot, but that was fine with us. The owner and his son were our contacts and were very friendly and helpful. The room was quiet. We never had any issues with the noise from the main road. I highly recommend this room and the this B&B.

My husband & I & two friends stayed in Den 3 in July 2009. It was a perfect place to be in during a few days of rainy weather. The warm cookies were awesome & the owner, Rich, was very personable. (He's a Minn. Vikings fan & proud of it!!!!) I most definitely recommend it if you are planning a stay in Seward. Judy Counts, Hancock, Mi.

We had a very pleasant stay at the bear's den unit #2 after a 7-day Alaskan cruise. We are a family of 4, with one adult daughter and one 8-year old boy. Bear's Den unit #2 includes 2 queen beds. There is a living room, one queen bed (adjacent to the living room, kitchen (with microwave, coffee maker, fridge, toaster), and another queen bed within the one bedroom. This is a comfortable and pleasant place to stay -- particularly after being cramped at the cruise ship cabin (even with a balcony). If you are deciding to stay between a hotel and this place, I would definitely choose this place!

We were going on a Kenai Fjords Tour Wildlife cruise that morning. Kenai Fjords Tour arranged it so that we were picked up from the cruise ship. We labeled our luggages and Kenai Fjords Tour dropped our luggages directly to this place. So everything worked well. Please note, I wasn't sure if Kenai Fjords Tour was going to do this, but ourr hosts the Adelmann's were always willing and friendly to help out to make things easy for us. They responded to our emails promptly.

Coming from a cruise cabin, this place gives you the room and space to unwind. There are board games provided. Really did not have time to play with them, but may be helpful if you are traveling with young kids.

Breakfast! They provided abundant breakfast choices. No eggs or bacon if you want those but they provided pastries/danishes, english muffins, bagels, cereals (at least 2 kinds), milk, orange juice, coffee (decaf and reg), oatmeal, jam/jelly, cream cheese, peanut butter, grapes, oranges, apples etc... let me put it this way -- a lot of food which you won't be able to finish. In fact, my husband and my son packed some muffins and fruits to bring with them on their fishing trip -- of course, tons left over enough for 2 more families.. Just want to clarify, however, this is not a bed and breakfast where people go to a particular dining area where guests all have breaksfasts together. This bed and breakfast place is more like a country home. You have your own dining area. By the way, the welcome homebaked chocolate chip oatmeal cookies were a pleasant surprise. They were good!

In terms of location, this place was walkable to the train station, the harbor, and even downtown Seward. There is a big street you have to cross with no pedestrian crosswalk, but generally you will be able to cross. Just be aware if you are traveling with small kids. My 8 year old had no problem even lugging a luggage behing. The harbor is probably half a mile away, while downtown Seward is less than 3/4 of a mile from the harbor (where the cruise ship docks). There is also a small grocery very near the place.

The location and this place worked very well for us! And they do have wireless Internet!
