“Nice place to stay near Seward”
Reviewed September 22, 2011

We stayed one night here and were very pleased with our stay. Pat and Dennis were very gracious and had lots of great information about the local area. Pat gave us an awesome breakfast too - we really appreciated all the time she put into it. The ice cream was a special treat too! Our room was spacious and extremely clean and cozy - and we had a great view of the lake. Pat went out of her way and got us a TV to watch DVD's on in our room too - she really went above and beyond to make us comfortable. We had the Resurrection Peak room which normally shares a bath, but we were the only ones upstairs so we had it to ourselves which was a nice bonus. We didn't have enough time to enjoy all the amentities that are offered but it seems like there were many. We saw a bald eagle in the trees just before we left, too, which was the icing on the cake for us!

Thank you for the wonderful comments - it's always great to hear our efforts are appreciated. I think your visit was extra special due to the great B&B experience you and your husband enjoyed. I'm talking about the wonderful opportunity B&B's give guests to share with one another. Our evening ice cream time when we hand dip all guests ice cream bars seems to be a conversation booster for lots of sharing time of our guests. I recall you and another couple from Iowa had that fun opportunity to chat till late and than continue with more involved conversations the next morning at breakfast. Those types of traveling experiences are what make B&B' s the favorite choice for most of our guests.
Hope you come back again, stay longer, see more of the great visitor attractions Seward offers and take a kayak or canoe out on our lake! The views and wildlife are marvelous treats for your ears and eyes!

Just returned from a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Bear Lake Lodgings B&B. We stayed in the Bear Lake Suite which has a deck and a lovely view of the lake. This suite has its own private bath, but it is located down the hall which did not sound so great at first but actually turned out to be fine. There are no other rooms on that level, so there are no worries about anyone else using the bathroom. The hosts, Pat and Dennis are so wonderful and helpful, and the breakfasts are great! Hand dipped ice cream bars at night are also special treat. Don't miss this special place on Bear Lake.

You kind comments mean a lot from you, as I know you expressed having both worked in the hospitality business. Good to have a guest express the private bath down the hall was not a problem - as we now have special logo designed robes for men and for women guests. Traveling with a robe is just to inconvenient and it's a nice amenity to offer our guests in the Bear Lake Deck Suite and our two rooms which share a bath.
The lake view from the Bear Lake Deck Suite is amazing - in the summer view eagles flying or roosting in the trees across the lake - in the winter watch the Northern Lights - all while lying in bed! We are currently building new owners quarters, with nearly the same view. Thus, we'll be spoiled all summer with the same view as our guests enjoy.

We traveled with another couple who stayed in the Lakeside Suite and we stayed in the Bear Lake Suite. I have no complaints about our room, but our friends thought the lack of screens that prevented them leaving windows open at night and depriving them of cross-ventilation was a problem. Their bathroom was down the hallway, and although it was considered "private" was unlocked when not in use.

The owners are Jack and Patricia, and although we briefly met Patricia as she had to leave to attend a fair (she's the queen of hand dipped ice cream in Alaska!), Jack shared stories of his life in Alaska. Breakfasts were ample, and we were there in time one of our two nights for the hand dipped ice cream, yumm. Gorgeous setting, saw lots of eagles but sadly no bears! Very peaceful and quiet.

Room Tip: I don't like sharing a bathroom, so I'd have to say spring for the Bear Lake Suite.

Good to hear our lake side location provided the beautiful setting our guests come to enjoy. The eagles were plentiful this summer around the lake, both the mature and immature eagles which have not yet achieved their white heads. Bears are a treat and a scary blessing - as B&B owners we don't want our guests in harms way and that can be the case with grizzly (brown) bears. Yet, we are thrilled for the guests who get to view them safely - from a kayak/canoe at a distance - which our location can sometimes provide along with our complimentary use of the boats. We don't advertise bears as a viewing option - only Mother Nature can provide that occasional treat.

We were unaware of the cross ventilation option on the Lakeside Suite, it's rare that we have the warmth needing to have open windows. The room has two opening windows, and after checking, one has a screen and one does not. The other 3 windows are non-opening. We'll, look into a screen addition for the one window to allow for the cross ventilation and pray for more warm summer days for 2012!

This is our second review or guest comment wishing to have the unattached bath to the Lakeside Suite be a locking bathroom. The bathroom has an attractive notice posted on the door declaring it's for use of the Lakeside Guests ONLY. Guests are asked to leave the door closed when not in use, to prevent anyone from entry without viewing the sign. Lakeside Suite is the only guest room on the first floor and all other guests have bathrooms either in suite or shared on the 3rd floor. We have discussed adding an additional key to the Lakeside Suite guest key ring - but it seemed very inconvenient for the guest to have to have a key each time they wished to use their bath. The distance to their bath is a very short walk - 8 walking steps - for which we provide lovely bathrobes for ladies & men if the guests desire. Bathrobes are provided as an option for guests in the two rooms on the 3rd floor who share a bath too.

As the owners, we both have full-time employment beyond the B&B, and have the best full-time Innkeepers to watch over and care for our guests, along with daily housekeepers to maintain the accommodations to our high standards. It was a little confusing for the first half of summer, as the Innkeeper is Patricia and her husband is Jack. The owners are Pat and Dennis, but both of the husbands are great with offering lots of wonderful Alaskan stories on wildlife and more. The ice cream bars are "THE BEST" and with 25 + years of serving them at Alaskan fairs and festivals it's hard to find an Alaskan who hasn't enjoyed them. Our guests either have them for an appetizer or rush back from dinner to enjoy the best dessert they could possibly find - our treat - fresh dipped to order vanilla ice cream into pure chocolate (blend of dark and milk chocolate) and rolled in either dry roasted almonds or crushed Oreo cookies! Happy to hear these guests enjoyed them too! I'm always happy when guests seek me out at special events/festivals to say hello and tell me how much they enjoyed my home and our Innkeeper. Oh, a baby fingerling salmon just jumped as I was looking out the window and the sun is working it's way through the clouds - time for a walk in the beautiful fall colors. Gotta LOVE Alaska!

The owners were not there when we were and we were allowed to use their room. It is a great room with a large balcony and a lovely view of a small lake. Some people used the kayaks and could see the black bears feasting on salmon.

This is the type of place B&B travelers long for - warm, friendly home with just enough privacy where you don't feel like you are living in a dorm room! Right on Bear Lake, with a canoe and kayaks for guests to enjoy, minutes from downtown Seward. The host was an amazing cook, and served incredible chocolate dipped ice cream bars in the evening.

Bear Lake Lodging was the best BB we have ever stayed at. Janine was very informative about the area and gave personal kayak instructions. The setting is just awesome and very comfortable. Of course the late night ice cream bars were a hit with all of us and we would rush back to make sure we were there in time. Pat helped us book several of our tours and we recieved additional discounts by doing that. Our stay there rated a top 10 on our list of places we have stayed.

This B&B had a wonderful view of a river. They also provide kayaks for your pleasure of kayaking at your convenience. An eagle owned a tree nearby so we enjoyed that. THE greatest blessing was an ice cream bar every night at 8:00 pm.

The con is that we had to share a bathroom with another room, but tha is what we signed up for and that is what we paid for. Being new at B&B's, we would probably opt out on this the next time and have a room with our own bathroom and pay a bit more.

Thank you Janine and owners. We would be back for sure if we are in the area.
