This was the real find in the dive bar hunt. Remember the old style Vegas lounges? Red velvet,

upholstered Naugahyde chairs, lots of brass ? Its all alive and well here, plus the walls of the bar are glass cases with a

Jim Beam decanter collection valued at around a million dollars.
Good food reasonable prices, nice crowd. On the downside smoking is still allowed.

We went there for Halibut, very satisfied. I had fried fish back in lower 48 states and never liked it. Their fried Halibut is nothing I had in mind about fried fish, doughy and greasy. Big chuck of fresh Halibut dipped in thin batter. It's so not greasy that a napkin is not needed for absorbing extra oil. We also ordered sandwiches. They are decent.

We were in town Sept 15, and the restaurant we were planning on, as well as several other choices, were already closed for the season. We weren't looking for a high end restaurant and we happened on Thorn's Showcase Lounge and were glad we did!! We were interested in tasting halibut. We ordered a large bowl of fried halibut chunks with a side and that was plenty for the two adults to split. The large bowl was $28, but split was reasonable and plenty to eat. The halibut was tender and so yummy!

The teens had hamburgers that they enjoyed and the burgers and many sandwiches were in the $10 range.

The interior is a bar/lounge with original 60s error decor that was in great shape. The woman who waited on us, originally from HI, was so personable and attentive. It seemed there were a fair amount of locals there as well as a few other tourist types. We enjoyed our meal very much!

There is a smoking at the bar, but we hardly noticed, as we were seated near the front of the restaurant.

Had lunch here after disembarking our cruise ship. Had read great reviews about their halibut and the reviews were right. The place itself is a little smoke filled bar right on the main road, but worth checking out.

We ate dinner here at Thorn's both our evenings in Seward. They do allow smoking at the bar and we could smell it, but it didn't stop us from coming back a second night for the halibut bites. It definitely feels like a local place, but we enjoyed that atmosphere. The side salad was good as well. The halibut bites are fried but they are barely breaded and not the slightest bit greasy. We loved them! We would come back to Seward just so we could eat there again.
