“Great Mediterranean delight!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2011

Great hotel located in a pine wood on a small peninsula just a 5 minute walk to the centre of touristic village Vodice in Dalmatia/Croatia. Clean and tidy rooms, air-conditioned, almost all with a view to seaside, excellent cuisine typical Dalmatian and international, buffet breakfast and dinner with rich assortment of dishes. The "Blue flag" rated beach is right under the hotel. Night life down town 5 min. walking distance from hotel.
You would wish to return soon.

Punta is not a 4 star hotel. Except complimentary shower cap, there was nothing else in the bathroom. Room lightning had only 4 (and only 3 working) lamps. There was no shoe shine or sewing kit.
BAD POINTS:
1. No wireless, NO FREE wireless. If you wish to connect to the Internet you have to pay 11€/day, or 4.50€/hour! Also, the plug in cable is only 2m long, so you have to sit at the table in the room!
2. They refuse to bring any tap water to the dining table and push the bottled water instead. They brought it only after I threatened to send Inspection!
3. Food was lukewarm.

GOOD POINTS:
1. Personnel are exceptionally welcoming, nice and obliging.
2. Beds are wonderfully hard - the mattress is very, very firm.

Oh, Come On people, what would you expect from hotel in Croatia?
I have read those rewievs and I couldn´t believe it - you probably thought that you would be staying in "Crown Plaza Vodice"?!
Anyway, Hotel Punta is excellent. We arrived one hour earlier than check-in was planned and they immediately called our travel-agency woman, who gave us keys to our room.
We were staying in depandance - Arausana - (each of 3 depandances is reconstructed) with a seaview from our room on 4th floor. Room was clean, the cleaning lady came everyday and changed towels, made up our bed, took away trash and hoovered. So we were absolutely satisfied with services. Btw - in the price of your room is also a safebox and a parking space in front of the hotel. In other hotels you must have been paying for that. And also you can use an inside pool - in case the weather wouldn´t be so good.
And food? There was plenty of tasteful food. Especially dinner - so many kinds of food, you can eat as much as you can...
Summary - great hotel which I would recommend to everybody.

Let me get the goods things out first. The people were lovely, the hygiene was excellent, the food was plentiful and tasty.

The reason I chose this hotel was that it stated that it was 20 meters from the sandy beach. The hotel is NOT 20 meters from the beach. There are NO sandy beaches in Vodice.

That (false) statement was the reason I chose it, my mum is hard of walking and that description seemed perfect. The whole holiday was spoiled because of that.

The beach may be 20 meters from the hotel, if you flew over it, and the "beach" you would reach was a strip of concrete approximately 1.5 meters wide that would take you to a rocky patch that would lead to the sea. It involved going up and down various stairs, and that was if the hotel in front of Punta wasn't pissed off to barricade the access to the beach, which then would mean going all the way around.

As I mentioned before, the whole reason I wanted to bring my mum there is that she can hardly walk, the description of the hotel sounded like the right thing. In reality, we had to walk approximately 1/2 mile every day to reach the spot where she could get into the sea without having to jump into it. I ended up tiring her more than relaxing her. I am REALLY, REALLY angry about that.

And as for the sandy beaches!! One needs a pair of plastic shoes to get into the sea as the stones are too many and too sharp. The whole thing is a disaster.

Another thing about the hotel is that at the dinner time you were not allowed to get the tap water (which is excellent, one of the best in the region, hence the name Vodice which means Water), but had to by a 0.75cl bottle at a price of £3.50. I thought it outrageous.

Oh, and, hotel did not issue any beach towels (4 star???) so we had to buy some.

All in all, as I said before, the people are lovely, the food is good, but the hotel ABSOLUTELY cannot be rated as a 4 star. They lied about the facilities. If I could I would ask for my money back. Can I? Actually, I will try from Expedia who, I now know, knew about the shortfalls of the hotel.

PS. Dalmatia is a lovely place, the islands and the coast is beautiful and everybody should go and visit. But I would not recommend the hotel Punta.

I would not recommend this hotel, as it is not a 4 star experience and is overpriced.

This hotel was quite far from other attractions and not on the greatest part of the coastline. The promised seaview was actually behind trees so the view was actually of the decaying concrete putt-putt golf course. The hotel was also supposed to be within 100m of a sandy beach, which I could not find. The coastline was all concreted over, so it was not very natural looking.

The room itself was of a decent (3 star) standard, but the rest of the building was more like a 2 star hotel. The buffet food was ok, but was often only lukewarm.

The season was clearly over by the end of the August and there were no longer any beach bars open, and there was little going on at night.

  • Liked — Cleanliness and good shower
  • Disliked — Grotty building and over priced

We booked this hotel through Expedia on July 27th 2007 for a week commencing 6th August for ourselves and our son and daughter aged nineteen and twenty one. Upon arrival we very quickly realised that there were several inaccuracies in its description. It certainly did not look or feel like a four star hotel. Our rooms in one of the annexes were quite basic and the décor was drab although they were clean and the shower rooms (there was insufficient space for a bath) appeared to have been recently refurbished. We heard other guests complaining about this and they were told that these rooms were the same standard as those in the main part of the hotel. As for a sea view it was more like a sea glimpse as pine trees blocked the view and there were several pieces of broken glass on the balcony.

We had to buy our own shampoo and soap as the original allocation of two slivers and two sachets was not replenished. The shower only trickled water out at times. The lift, a shrine to Formica, was very out dated. It would only work if guests remembered to close the inner doors. Despite several notices in different languages people usually forgot to do this.

The hotel was surrounded by pine trees but you would not describe it as a pine forest. The location of the hotel was far busier than the description led us to believe. In fact Vodice itself was more touristy than we thought and there was the stench of sewage as you walked into the town along the waterfront. We were definitely not a hundred yards from a sandy beach!! There was no beach as such just a concrete promenade, rocks, an area of shingle and several concrete hexagons dotted along the shoreline for sunbathing on. None of these were exclusively used by the guests of Hotel Punta. Since it was a thoroughfare it could be noisy at night and was packed with people in the day time.

It was difficult finding a parking space. The receptionist (we only ever saw one on duty at any time) said that she was not responsible for the parking. The boys who were in charge of this were as elusive as the Holy Grail. After seeing two cars lifted onto the back of a lorry and taken away we did manage to secure a space in one of the chained off bays only to find another car parked there when we returned to the hotel the following day! A lengthy wait in reception ensued with two other people both sharing our problem.

The food was good, varied and plentiful although it didn’t stay hot for long and being a buffet had to be endured rather than enjoyed. Unlike some of the guests the staff in the restaurant were very pleasant but we were never asked to show evidence that we were hotel residents. Coffee and tea was only available at breakfast. English was spoken widely, if not very fluently, and seemed to be the common language for most other nationalities. However, there was no tourist information written in English in the hotel’s office and the boat trips, so my husband was informed, were “exclusively for our German guests”.

The scuba centre adjacent to the hotel was managed in a somewhat cavalier fashion and my son had to do a discovery dive without a wetsuit even though we had requested one of two different members of the dive team before embarking on the trip. Several times during our holiday we encountered brusqueness and a lack of helpfulness especially when trying to find public toilets in towns!!!

This holiday was extremely disappointing. We also saw stark reminders of the Balkan war when out driving; warning signs for mined areas; derelict houses; gun damage to existing buildings. If you do not mind paying a four star price for a two/three star hotel then the Hotel Punta is for you but I’m sure that there are far nicer places in Croatia.

After having real trouble finding accommodation in Croatia we managed to get 4 nights here through a booking website. The photos make the hotel look really luxurious however it is actually quite dated. Nevertheless, our room was a decent size with a balcony and sea view. The hotel was clean although it is very smokey! Breakfast was awful, a huge buffet of stale cereal and bread, eggs that have been sitting out for hours and revolting coffee. We were glad we weren't on half board! The location of the hotel is great as it's only a few minutes walk to the restaurants and to central Vodice, so it's great to use as a base. However given that we paid around £110 a night here we would have expected something a little more upmarket. There is plenty going on at the hotel if you are fond of karaoke and poolside activities!
