We had a very nice room with contemporary furnishings. We booked a superior room with a balcony but we were disappointed to find that the balconies are all tiny. No room for even one seat on them...just room for two people to stand there.

The ‘hotel beach’ is across the other side of the harbour and you can get vouchers from the reception desk for the free water taxi. What we weren’t told from the outset was that we’d have to pay for use of sun beds and umbrella over at the beach. It wasn’t expensive though and it’s a nice spot so we did that both days. (75 kuna (about £8) for 2 sun beds and a large umbrella for the day. There’s a beach bar there and a roped off swimming area in the sea with easy access via a pontoon with steps. The hotel does not provide beach towels for this area...unless you pay for them. So bring your own or be prepared to hire them.

The hotel does provide beach towels free of charge for use at its pool area.

There’s a free private car park across the road.

Our local recommendations would be:
1) Bar Ingleza (turn left out of hotel ) for coffee for about £1.10, a good glass of red wine for about £1.20.
2) Bata restaurant turn right out of hotel. It’s set back slightly overlooking a grassy town square. It was definitely the best of two restaurants that we tried when we were here. We went there twice. Very good value, lovely friendly staff and good simple food. 'No frills' decor.

We asked at the hotel about wifi but were told that they don’t have it. There are plenty of hotspots that you can connect to (about £2 for 30 mins) but you can buy a VIP microsim from the technology shop around the harbour and access will cost 10 kuna (about £1.10) for 24hrs. To locate this shop leave the hotel and turn right, walk around the harbour until about the end of the parade of shops and restaurants. The chap in the shop there was very helpful, sold us a sim and 5 days internet access for 50kuna, put it in the ipad for us and made sure that we were up and running ok. He was very helpful indeed.

Brilliant location. Friendly, professional reception staff. However, we were not offered a porter service and had to carry our own bags into our room. Our room was quite small, but comfortable. The bathrooms may not be everyone's cup of tea, the "walls" are glass and you can see directly into it, although there were blinds that could be pulled down to cover the shower area. The hotel has a lovely pool, they offer towels at the pool (although they are rather small). The breakfast was good. We had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel.

Very clean and modern hotel, but how, in 2012 can a hotel not offer Wi-Fi? You can't even pay for it if you want it. You are forced to walk around town and stand in front of bars and restaurants until you get a good signal. In any case, the town is very pretty and has lots of places for dinner or a snack.

Nice bathroom, but it's a handheld showerhead with no bracket for holding it up, so it truly is handheld. A pain if you're not used to it. Takes twice as long to shower.

Nice breakfast buffet.

The best hotel on Island Korcula. We stay there fm 11. to18. Aug.
Vela Luka is the best place on Island Korcula with her island Proizd which is the best place for swimming. Another 8 days we spent in Hotel Marco Polo in town of Korcula which is also4 star jotel but absolutely noncomparible with hotel Korkyra in Vela Luka.

Recently I had the pleasure of staying at the Hotel Korkyra while on holiday in Croatia. We chose the hotel after laboring over hotels 'Off of the beaten path' on the Adriatic. Overall we were very happy with the Hotel Korkyra. Decor, Design, Location, Facilities and the somewhat quirky set up with the the En Suite bathroom. The staff in the Hotel were generally extremely friendly and very capable. However, the bar staff fell a long way short of what is required in a hotel of this standard. They wee slow and inefficient...when you could find them.
That is the worst of whats on offer though and they did little to take away from our stay. The pool and pool area were delightful. Tasty, quiet and very peaceful. The beach was very easy to get to by water taxi and this was a complimentary to hotel guests. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. There was a variety of local fare to suit all tastes.
The beds were comfortable and the rooms clean. Cleaning staff started from early morning and the rooms were done, with fresh towels and toiletries, everyday. The view from the standard room over the pool area was lovely. The very contemporary design and decor of the hotel definitely added to the appeal and taste.
One thing to watch though is that there is no WIFI in the hotel. This can be availed of in premises close by and there is hardline internet access available.
Anybody going to Vela Luka should be careful of public transport times and the hidden costs involved. Departure for other locations, ie Dubrovnik, could require a very early morning start. This is made so much easier by the fact that the hotel staff will have a delicious packed lunch available for you at departure time.
This hotel, in reality, was probably a little bit out of our price range and not for those travelling on a tight budget, especially at this time of year. However, I can say that the Hotel Korkyra met all of our expectations of such a hotel and I would gladly stay again. I can definitely recommend that anyone travelling in this part of the world should consider staying in the Hotel Korkyra, if your budget stretches to it.

We are just having our last night in vela luka (3 night-stay) after one 1500 km road trip in Croatia !
We have chosen this hotel through a special-offer-website because we wanted a bit of relaxation at the end of our holiday.
It was a great choice !!!

Very nice room, modern designed, quiet with see-view. Room was on the top of the cleanness, very comfortable with all the comfort you need for a beautiful stay !

Did not use it but just had a look on the fitness area : very nice area with big windows to the sea, several machines and weights, one sauna, one hammam, a nice terrace with view and some long-chairs as well as sitting area !

The pool was also very quiet, on the back side of the hotel in a very nice decorated area.

And now about the restaurant... My highlight ! Very nice room with also a terrace... So you have the choice to sit inside in the air conditioned restaurant with once more huge windows toward the sea, or outside to enjoy the beautiful climate !
The food was very good, a nice choice on the buffet but also the possibility to have some menu meals for the breakfast as well as for the dinner !

To conclude, beautiful hotel, superb quiet city, possibility to visit all the island by car or bike, very nice landscape, friendly and efficient staff... Everything for a perfect holiday...

...Those one you don't want to go back home !! ;-)

Thank you

If you have to stay in Vela Luka to catch the early ferry to Split, this is the place to stay.
You were forced to eat dinner in the very communist style dining room although it was fantastic weather but they didn't bother making up the outside area. We were sent to swim at a hotel which was closed for the season and told to just sneak down to their beach - all a bit odd.
They were kind enough to pack up a breakfast box for us as we left to catch the early ferry.
Even the upstairs 'spa'(?) area had only 1-2 chairs on the outside patio and it was a very
warm late September day/evening.

Room Tip: didn't seem to have any good views nor terraces worth a bit
