Wow! We were impressed with the accommodations and grounds at the Wyndham Mauna Loa village. Check in was a breeze and the staff was super friendly (aloha kine). Our family of 4 (2 adults/2teens) stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 1/2 bath condo. The floor plan included 2 bedrooms and 2 baths down stairs with a galley kitchen, large family room, half bath and deck on the upper level. There was plenty of room (approx 1450 sq ft) and the king beds were comfy. The queen sized sleeper sofa had an upgrade mattress so my son who opted to sleep on the sofa said it was the best sofa sleeper ever. There is plenty of room for a family of 6 in the 2 bedroom units. The kitchen was well equipped with essential appliances, dishes, flatware, glasses and cooking utensils. Grills are available on the premises if you want to grill out. The condo was clean and nicely decorated and well maintained. There are pools, hot tubs and tennis courts for use and they even have some beach gear for use at no charge if needed (just check with the front desk). The only area for improvement was the jets in the hot tub near our building. They were not working at full capacity. We did not attend the sales demo and did not feel pressured to attend. Check out was easy. The location is a short drive to the hub of Kona, but that is what we wanted. We enjoyed being removed from the traffic and sounds of the city. After all we were on vacation and wanted to relax and get away. A convenience store and small shopping center is about 3 miles up the road. You won't be disappointed with your stay at Mauna Loa Village!

Room Tip: Ask if they have military discounts if you are active duty and/or if you have a Hawaii driver's...

This resort was very nice. The only downfall was that you had to pay for daily internet usage, though the concierge allowed me to use hers for free - staff was very helpful and pleasant! The location was not on the beach and was a bit of a drive from the main town, but overall it was a very nice resort.

Stayed few nights in early February and I found the staff at the front office(the one close to
the driveway in from the main road)to be so nice and helpful. One of the office staff (Stephanie?)let me use a spare office computer late at night and even stayed back for a short time after office had closed to let me finish on the computer.
The Expedia staff member based at the hotel(Mike?) was also most helpful in giving me some tips as it was my first time to Hawaii and I was keen to see as much of the island in the three days I was there.A nice shopping centre is close by and there is a very nice 10 min walk to the beach to cool off and a good base for kayak and mantra ray tours.Atmosphere at night was so quiet, almost an eerie feeling!
As for the one bedroom suite quite spacious.Washing machines with detergents and dryers and a nice kitchen with a safe in the bedroom was also most welcomed!(I usually dont stay in these types of resort and the price was also quite good considering where I had previously stayed in Honolulu!)
Grounds also are well maintained. Not having a gym was the only minus but otherwise a
great place to stay!

Room Tip: If a lot of luggage a room on the ground floor may be a better choice.

Just got home a week ago and was very pleased with our stay. They treated us very nice, let us leave luggage in office till unit was ready. Very nice unit, two bedroom, the only problem was there wasn't a TV in second bedroom, found that to strange. TV were 42 inch flat screens with many channels, never watched much TV. We had a view of small view of ocean from our room but all rooms don't have view, we ask and they gave us one that did. Kitchen was well equipped and grills very close to all units. Grounds are very well kept. They had golf course shut down and were working on it, it should reopen soon. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Wyndham Mauna Loa Village for a week. We arrived late so had been told ahead of time how to get ahold of someone to get the key, and we able to get into the condo quickly. The condo we were in had the living area upstairs with 2 large bedrooms and the washer/dryer downstairs. We did hear noise from the neighbors early in the morning - young children running around, but overall not much.
It is very nicely laid out with green space and a view of the golf course from our lanai. There are 8 pools ( I think) and we had one just out front very close to our condo. The barbeque was out back, close by, although we had to use the bedroom doors to carry things back and forth. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and the fridge has an icemaker. Overall very comfortable.
There is a farmers market next door at the Sheraton, and we purchased fresh fruit, macadamia nuts plus a few gifts here. Talking to some of the merchants we also got advice on which resturants to try and things on the island to see.

We found everyone working at the Mauna Loa were very helpful and really enjoyed our stay.

The Wyndham Mauna Loa was a really nice option while on the Big Island.

The Good: The grounds are beautifully kept. There are grills in convenient locations available to the guests. The kitchen was well equipped. They provide 2 free packets of detergent for dishes and clothes - extras will cost you a dollar per packet. Having a washing machine (small, though it is) in the condo was a huge convenience. I sat on the quiet patio every morning watching the VERY colorful birds and the resident mongoose. The condo is spacious, both in the living area and the bedroom. The bathroom had lots of counter space, drawers, and a hair dryer. They provide plenty of towels, including pool towels. The location is really close to all kinds of shopping and restaurants, and there are plenty of things to do within an hour's drive. The staff was very helpful and friendly. There is a small library of movies you can borrow. There is a very nice work-out area and tennis courts (rackets can be rented for $5 for the entire day).

The Bad: There aren't many things I can say here. The pool closest to our condo was closed, but there were others available within a very short walk down the pathway. We didn't have any sort of view of the ocean, but we weren't in the room all the much anyway.

If you don't care about room service or having a bar/lounge on property, then this is a great alternative to the resorts. We would definitely stay here again.

We were in building 1, unit 1. It is right on the road but that didn't end up bothering us much. It is a very sunny unit and we decided to stay even though they offered us unit 4 in this same building. The living room and kitchen and half bath are upstairs and we mainly look out on a golf course, palm trees and an uphill view. Downstairs are two spacious bedrooms with on suite bathrooms. The master is quite nice with a long counter and two sinks separate from the toilet/tub/shower room. The laundry is located downstairs as well on the entry level. There is a small fountain in the courtyard. No noise at all from neighbors. Nice balcony where we ate almost all of our meals. Kitchen is quite adequately equipped. Air conditioning works well. They only provided two packets of laundry soap for a week. There is coffee, crystal light and popcorn to get you started. The grounds are nice with pretty plantings. Hot tub surface is chipped and looks bad. Pool is crystal clear and nicely maintained.
Farmer's Market on Wednesday and Saturday next door at the Sheraton.
Mid-week service included changing of beds and towels only.

Room Tip: Units towards the back of the property are more likely to have an ocean view.
