“Great location, not great for infants”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

The best feature of this location is that it is right across the street from a beautiful beach. This beach has very little parking, so it was nice to be able to walk to it.

The biggest downside of this rental was that we were unable to bring our 15 month old son into the pool. He has sufficient swim gear that there is no worry of anything getting into the pool, but they could not accommodate us. We were very disappointed, because having a pool was a big feature for us while we are on vacation. Taking a toddler to the beach is not quite as easy as going to the pool.

Very roomy, furniture a bit old and worn. Ours had everything we needed, such as sun screen, aloe. Washer and dryer with all the necessities.
Condo comes with instructions.
Front Desk staff very helpful and will pull out maps to show you how to get to places.
TV in bedroom not hooked up in guest room, only the main room and master bedroom worked.
Lots of bugs, they warn you about this though. So don't leave food out.
Electricity is very expensive, so you must keep lights off.

Beach is right across the street, but it has rough waters. If your not a strong swimmer this isn't for you. Some of the elderly patrons were told to go into town to less rough waters. The beach is also rocky.
Town is about 5 miles away. No sidewalks, you walk in bike lane, but most motorist are pretty nice.

4 of us stayed at white sand april16 to 26th. As any who have gone to kona you are aware of the og,rocky beaches and sometimes cloudy but warm weather We had a little rain at noght and a little of everything. It seems that the big island in the kailua area has its fair share of overcast .hat starts out blue turns to something else by noon If you go north yu will find better weather. We found a great snrkeling beach that used to be cakled marker 60 but noe is north of marker 72 It is secluded and has nice sand and corl reefs for snorkeling Ask the locals Bite Me` fish market by the harbor has good selection of seafood There is also a costco. There are many great flea markets where you can find awesome deals on cloting and jewelry. We took a day trip to hilo going the southern route .We stopped at Akatsuka orchid farm where i purchased babies and has them mailed to my home. Its lovey in there We akso stopped at muana loa chocolate factory There is a huge flea market i hilo on mondays and some other day We got 8 papayas for a dollar! we also got enormous avocados for about $2 for 4.We took the upper road home and it was quicker. We went to have lumch at the hilton waioloa and ate outside by the dolphin pool and watched swimmers swim with them It was awesome its a beautiful resort but has lots of walking Back to the resort know before you go There are 3 levels of stairs so before you rent ask if you have to go up or down There is an elevator but some units in the front or back have steps you have to tae all your stuff up and down. The pool area is nice and brook in the office is very helpful Each unit is privatley owned and will have different amenities Also some of the units have their air turned off so make sure if thats important to you to check first. Most who live there year round dont use it if they dont have to Threre are ceiling fans on the balconmies usually and in the rooms and you can get a nice cross breeze if you keep the screen and front door screen open..Black sand beach is right across the street and is great fr sunsets. The snorkeling beach south about 1 mile by the keahou hote is fab but go when its high tide because there is lava rck that kind of har d to maneuver around If you go when its higher like after lunch you can usually float over it Its worth the effrt so many fish and sea turltles too There is a breakwater there so its pretty safe.I heards the saddle road is oly half finished of redone road so dont take that unless you have a 4x4 or something If you have any qustions feel free to contact me about any other activities Theres lots to do there because you have to drive places for better beaches .

We arrived at the White Sands Resort in Kona, Hawaii on Mar. 17th, 2012 ready to enjoy a week of island fun and relaxation. We were so grateful to escape the snow and rain in Seattle and were rewarded with a week of sunny, hot weather and NO RAIN! We enjoyed using the tennis courts, BBQ area and pool at the complex along with the friendly people we met. However, we were less than impressed with the condo unit we rented. Listed below are the problem areas with this unit:
- both bathroom and kitchen taps leaked continuously
- bath towels and some comforters were stained and, apparently, not washed prior to our arrival
- the tub and shower areas were missing some handles as well as the bottoms of both were old and dirty-looking
- one of the toilets was constantly running so you never knew if it would flush!
- the inside of many kitchen cupboards smelled musty
- spent the week with a host of small, tiny ants running everywhere throughout the kitchen
- the bedroom clock only shows half the hour digital number
- the garden view is a sold wall of green trees and plants with no variation of light ……really nothing to look at except the occasional bird in the tree
- the living room couch has seen better days and sinks in the middle
- there is an iron but no ironing board
On the plus side, the master bedroom bed is quite comfortable and there is tons of storage space. We would not recommend renting this unit…….it is old, run down and needs major upgrading, especially if the owners are charging the same price per week as the other units in this complex (which we have also stayed in and found to be superior in many ways).

Room Tip: Do not rent Unit 135!

We stayed at White Sands very nice and planning to go back. My only complaint was the agent with Vrbo Gail I think her name was. My advice is to book direct from the owners of the suits and make sure if you do book with Vrbo you ask if the suite has air conditioning. etc.

Room Tip: Second floor and up safest and book through VRBO

Never shopped on the web for a place to stay and was to be honest nervous about what I was going to end up in. I was very pleased if not excited about my choice once I arrived. The condo had every thing that we needed to enjoy our stay. All furnishings, lines, appliances seemed to be new. We opened one of the closets in the 2nd bedroom and found all kinds of equipment, tennis rackets, snorkeling gear, boggy boards, beach chairs, coolers and even sand toys for little kids. The complex has two tennis courts a pool and spa tub that looks like the pool and decking was just redone, very nice looking. There is a barbeque area with fans over head to keep you cooled off and a pool table, sauna and showers in the pool area which was nice to get the salt off after swimming at the beach. The beach is just across the street from the complex and had an awesome experience swimming with turtles. There is an outdoor shower at the beach but I preferred to soap down after in the complex shower. I recommend the snorkeling up the road about a quarter mile this area has fantastic under water photo opportunities. There is a trolley that runs up and down the road in front of the complex. We took this down to town and walked around checking out the various shops. My wife said she especially enjoyed the early mornings on the lanai with a cup of local coffee (Kona) and the sound of the birds. I highly recommend unit #326 to anyone with family or just couples. Very comfy and relaxing place!!!

Room Tip: #326 was fully loaded, had a view of the ocean and was far enough away to get no road noise. Very qu...
