“Great Stay”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

Great room at a perfect location to enjoy everything Kona has to offer. Almost everything you are going to want to do is within walking distance from the Hotel. The rooms have been recently updated and are nice, with many having a view. Our room overlooked the main through street and the front of the building. Great for people watching. The pool area is nice and clean with a poolside bar and food service. The restrant across the street offers a great breakfast, for a much more reasonable price. There is also an ABC store within the property. Only downside is there is a slight musty odor in the downstairs common area, I think likely left over from some flood damage.

We have been staying at this hotel for a number of years. The first was back in 1991. It is good to see over the years they have up graded the rooms. The beds are lovely and comfy. And its nice just having a king bed and not two doubles in your room. The staff are very friendly. Highly recommend this hotel. Very central to walking everywhere around town.

Room Tip: Make sure you book rooms over looking the old tennis courts. Nice and quiet.

The hotel is right on the ocean. It has its own beach area and pool/hot tub.
You can rent snorkel gear, kayaks and SUPs right there on the beach.
You can walk to all the shops and restaurants in Kona.
The hotel is very nice. The rooms are clean and have

When we visited the Big Island, we decided to spend a week exploring the entire island. Kona is the perfect location to do so (given that you rent a car), so the Courtyard King Kamehameha was ideal for us.

King Kamehameha's was a great "home base" since it was reasonably priced at a convenient location. It was walking distance to Alii Dr (where all the shops and restaurants are located), as well as, Kona Brewing Company - no designated drivers needed :) The rooms were spacious and clean with very comfortable beds to pass out in after the jet lag and exploring of the island. The hotel is also attached to the ABC Store (a gift shop/convenience store), Menehune Coffee (coffee shop with food), Honu's on the Beach (the hotel's restaurant), Billfish (poolside bar) and a spa. If attending a lu'au in on your to-do list, the "Island Breeze Lu'au" takes place right at the hotel! Everything you need is right there!

Keep in mind, there isn't really a "beach" at the hotel (see picture attached). We knew that before we got there, so we were not expecting much and had planned on driving to Hapuna Beach and Kua Bay for the Kona "beach" experience.

Breakfast is not included and you need to pay additional for parking if you rent a car which is why I did not give the "Value" an "Excellent" - but that may not be a concern for you.

Overall, it was a great stay and I would stay there again!

Hotel is located in a great location, lots of eateries, shops and tourist activities.
Hotel has its own luau, nice beach, resturant is a little pricey, suggest walking elsewhere to eat.
Great place to get coffee of the morning located in the hotel.

NO COFFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! However, if lacking coffee or any way to make it in the room is the worst thing, the hotel is pretty darned good.

Initial check-in was smooth and courteous. The young woman at the counter confirmed me, informed me that the room already was paid for by the wedding party (we were there to officiate a wedding), and that my card would be needed for my additional personal charges. Everything ran through just fine. They would store our luggage until our room was avialbable.

After the wedding rehearsal, another young woman was at the desk when we went to get our key cards. Despite already having checked in and been approved, she re-ran my card, which promptly maxed out, wanted my husband's card, the system locked (because we'd already taken care of all this), etc., etc., At last it was straightened out. Stuff happens. The staff swas very sweet and apologized. I kinda hoped for some mac nuts or chocolates to appear, but no such luck (lol!)

The room was tiny, but clean and comfy. As long as we and our gear can be comfortably housed, I'm happy. I spend little time in the hotel room, so luxury accomodations are seldom a concern for me. Small fridge, flat screen TV (we don't have TV at home, so we watched Hawai`i 5-O our last night there!) and. . . . NO COFFEE OR COFFEE MAKER!!!!!!!!! ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!! I'm generally up around 3-4am, and put on a pot of coffee. No coffee. ARRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!

When Hunny got up, we went out for coffee. But it would have been nice to wander about the room with a hot cuppa.

Staff was awesome. Kind, aloha-filled folks who welcomed us to their "home." The other patrons were also generally lovely people, and offrered to carry things and help me. Aloha betgets aloha?

The Friday night buffet was serioulsy "broke da mout!" Every item was prepared to perfection, not an easy task on a buffet line. The food was so ono, I did honor to each item, having to make two trips to be sure I missed none of the scrumtious offerings. It was the seafood line, however, which won my heart. And the poi. Had to have two bowls of their excellent poi.The tiramisu was the best I have ever had.

The lu`au grounds where the wedding was held were clean and easy to work in. The set up was well done, and the staff, again, was kindly and helpful. The grounds were lovely. However, something has to be done about the incredibly ugly and un-aloha "KEEP OUT" signs. People walk right past them (they send a challenging message which begs to be answered!). I would be happy to work with the hotel to keep people off the heiau in a more culturally appropriate and effective way.

This hotel is an excellent base from which to explore Kailua Village, and the Kona District.
