“Good hotel and good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for two days while exploring the southwest part of Hawaii. The hotel is located as close as you can get to the center of the main beachfront of Kona. Lots of restaurants and shops within a few blocks.

The hotel is the usual Marriott quality. Nice clean rooms and good service.

The pool and bar are squeezed into a small area, so you get a pretty strong chlorine smell at the bar. We ordered Chi-Chis which were far too sweet. We didn't bother going back there. We had a breakfast buffet at the restaurant, which was pretty basic. We had breakfast at the coffee shop the second day. It was a better value.

I have stayed here with my wife for 6 nights. We both enjoyed this hotel. This was the best hotel that we stayed so far in Big Island. Very comfortable room, with sofa to chill after long day. Great staff. Hotel quite with very big parking and next to see, however beach very small. We used take care and drive to different locations and beaches. Very nice swimming pool with bar. Good locaion with walking distance to shops and restaurants.

Very lovely hotel I would definitely stay here again.

OK, OK, other places may be fancier, newer, bigger, more spectacular, but this has what you want within walking distance, even if mobility issues. This was my first trip to any Hawaiian Island. Stayed here first week of a two week trip.

They deliver: Onsite restaurant with great view. Poolside bar. picnic area. its own soft sand beach where you can connect up with tourist activities such as submarine ride, paddle boards or canoes. picnic area hosts seaonal luau. large onsite brand name convenience store that has all types snacks, beverages & souveniers, at very reseasonable prices. All staff very friendly & helpful with input about any services or questions you have about anything. Most have been working here for decades. This place is a great jumping off point or for just staying put. Fantastic sunset. Booked this for a week thru Costco travel. WOW what a savings. (And yes! they also have a Costco in Kona; Hint: if you are renting a vehicle and are planning to drive the Island for a period of time, it would be well worth joining, just for the grat savings in gasoline prices).

Walk across street from the Hotel to artsy shopping center with restaurants. people are all fantastic, friendly & helpful.

Room Tip: ocean view rooms above 3rd floor on side of outer tower over tops of trees, water approx 1/2 mile aw...

Based on reviews, I asked for high floor and quiet location. We were placed in a King room on 3rd or 4th floor (don't remember) facing the other tower. It was quiet. The view into rooms in the other tower (and theirs into ours) was clear, though.

Mattress was very soft, but slept well. I don't understand why hotels we stayed in Hawaii do not have vents in bathroom. Refrigerator had "sleep" option, which I liked so it did not cycle on/off during the night. Room was hot when we checked in, but a/c cooled it sufficiently, though noisy.

I did not like the louvered door. It let in too much light.

I did not like the odor. If we hadn't been tired/late, I would have insisted we try another room, but my husband was exhausted, didn't want to stand at the check-in desk again, and he thought it was only stronger version of the moldy odor of Florida motel rooms. But we were paying a lot more than a Florida motel room, especially adding in the parking. Needless to say, the odor remained strong because we needed the a/c and you can't open the lanai door and run the a/c at the same time.

Front desk staff were nice. No chance to ask them or concierge questions during our stay such as where is closest grocery, shave ice, etc. There were too many people in line.

Didn't use the restaurant, pool, or beach. Easy walking access to town.

Aloha,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback it is truly disappointing that although you've shared an appreciation for many aspects of our hotel, we were not able to fully impress you during your stay. My sincere apologies for the issues with the air conditioner and the odor in your room. Our maintenance and housekeeping departments are currently in the middle of their preventive maintenance schedule, where they will address each room on the property. We hope that you will allow us to welcome you back the next time you are visiting the Big Island. Mahalo

Without a doubt, this hotel has a location that is hard to beat. The Courtyard has been the King Kamehameha for years, but only in the last couple of years became a courtyard.
If you want to be in the center of the activity, this is the plaave to stay.
Nice hotel rooms. Nice service.

As a base for exploring the island this hotel is great, Room was nice and food at the hotel restaurant was good. Pool area and beach area were great. Staff did a great job with the room and overall experience. No issues that stand out. Nearby restaurants and shops are all within walking distance. Would stay here again.

This hotel is not a typical Marriott or Courtyard! It's an old hotel that has been renovated and based on what people said, it's 100% nicer than before the remodel but still has a ways to go to meet Marriott standards.
Beds are semi-comfortable, pillows not firm, rooms very small and bathrooms even smaller, water pressure for shower so-so, and shower head is for people 5'6" and under. If you are taller, you are going to have a hard time showering!! Each room has a balcony with 2 chairs and a table which is nice but strange door that covers patio door instead of curtains or blinds. The door doesn't keep light out any better than dark curtains so this must be left over from original hotel. Partial oceanviews are just that and you must be on patio to see it. Rooms are noisy.
Their restaurant is pretty and food good but you must fight off flies and birds while getting food or eating. Prices to Fri/Sat dinner buffet $41.95 which is quite high unless you plan to eat a lot of fish and prime rib. The food, to me, was just ok and not worth fighting off flies. Breakfast buffet is ok but same things every day and again flies and birds. Omelet station is nice. Service is slow and not very friendly especially in morning. Attempting to get drink refills proved difficult whereas at night they at least refill your water.
Do not try to checkout late as they don't seem to allow this beyond 11:30am. Parking is $12 a day and was ample.

The good: location is lovely. They have a little white sand beach by their pool which is lovely and a terrific automatic foot bath as you exit the sand. Their pool is nice but gets crowded quickly and then no place to lay out. Next to beach, they have green "grass" and a little pier to get some nice views and pictures or sit in sun or under palm tree. People are allowed to smoke on beach so that trails into restaurant since all windows to oceanfront open (not good). Within walking to Kona marketplace and restaurants. If you are into Hawaiian culture, they have a cultural museum of sorts in hotel to enjoy. Free wi-fi worked well. Front desk staff pleasant and concierge lady nice and helpful.

If I returned, I would likely choose a resort on Kona or Waikoloa but it's decently priced for area and not too bad.

Room Tip: Partial oceanviews ok but try not to get too close to pool/beach as noisy if you are a light sleeper...
