Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel
Ranked #4 of 14 Hotels in Kailua-Kona
Certificate of Excellence

The hotel is recently renovated, staff very nice, great breakfast buffet with delicious “cook to order” omelets. While there was absolutly nothing wrong with my stay in the hotel property itself, the town of Kona felt very unsafe so I would personally prefer to stay in the Waikola area due to these personal safety concerns.
I posted a seperate negative review of the town of Kona itself: Although we were there for four nights, my one and only evening stroll on the first night ended up with waling the dark main street, being accousted for by one homeless (there were several that lined the street) and a pick-pocket attempt on me by two youths.

Room Tip: We had ocean front room #504 and thoroughly enjoyed the balcony and views!

My husband and I spent our honeymoon here after our wedding in Maui. We are a fan of Marriott hotels and are members of Marriott rewards. We chose the Courtyward Marriott for this trip because it is consistent, clean and always comfortable.

We love this property because of it's great location. Our room on the fourth floor with a partial view of the ocean, the pool and part of Alii drive. I love the balcony where we sat everyone enjoying the evening air with music wafting from either the pool or a party somewhere. It is nice to have a refrigerator in the room to keep some fruits and snacks. The bed was comfortable with soft linen. On our first day the hotel surprised us with a box of chocolate with stick of "Just Married". These are the special touches that made us lifelong fans of the Marriott hotels. Some evening we stroll down Alii Drive to enjoy the various nightlife. One of our favorite place is Huggo's on the Beach. For a good sea food dinner we went to the Fish Hopper but really the best place to spend your evening is at the Billfisher at the pool. The food is good. The lava rock jacuzzi is really nice at a good temperature. I really enjoyed the jacuzzi interspeed with short jump into the cool pool. The hotel's restaurant also have a great breakfast buffet. We did not have dinner here but the menu looks good. I love the exhibit of the Hawaiian royalties history n the big room. We will be back. We really like this hotel.

We were originally booked at the Keauhou Outrigger hotel but moved to the Courtyard when we were notified it was closing down :-( The Courtyard honored the price and the package which included breakfast and an oceanfront room. Whilst not as oceanfront as the Outrigger, we had a good view over the Kona harbor, ocean and part of Ali'i Drive. We saw spinner dolphins in the bay a couple of times. The room was excellent, a good size with a generous balcony. The location is fantastic, right at the end of Ali'i Drive within walking distance of downtown Kona, Longs Drugs, Hilo Hattie's and the Kona Brewing Company to name just a few. Plenty of restaurants to choose from in Kona. The included breakfast was very good, with all the usual fare as well as an omelette station. There is a small beach directly in front of the hotel, we snorkelled just around the corner from the harbor and found it to be pretty decent. The beach would be excellent with young kids as it is very sheltered and they would be able to swim around easily at the edge. The hotel pool area looked nice and not far from the beach. Overall we would stay here again.

I have stayed at King Kamehamehas previously and knew this hotel was in an excellent position in Kona. We booked an ocean front room and it was beautiful, obviously had undergone a renovation since our last stay, the room was modern as it appears on their website. Our flight did have us arrive early (2hours) and we could not check in early however our baggage was gladly stored and we went for lunch. Housekeeping was poor and we did have to request the room be cleaned properly as rubbish was not removed on 2 occassions, Linen was not changed daily however when I requested this be done it was attended to promptly. This was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in, even better than home! The view from our room was beautiful and it was lovely to sit on the verandah and watch all the action in the harbour/bay. Parking is very reasonable at $10 per day and the parking staff are friendly and welcoming. The hotel has 2 great eateries in the complex and a lovely coffee shop. Across the road there are great restaurants and it is easy walking around the waterfront of Kona. I loved this hotel and can't wait to stay there again. My recommendation would be to pay for the ocean front rooms, you would not regret it they are worth the extra cost.

Room Tip: Book an ocean front room and request daily linen change.

I first stayed here more than 30 years ago, and for 2012 the property might be even better maintained than it was back then. The room is large and nicely furnished with around a 37" flat screen HDTV and ALL the other niceties that make a hotel stay pleasant. The beautifully sited restaurant was very relaxing and responsive for a menu selected breakfast (they offer a buffet for $19), and the pool area is large. Our room has an inside (non) view, but we booked via a discount website at around a $100/night.

Just sitting on the balcony, having partial ocean view. Hotel has very nice location, great for some walks around the shops and restaurants/bars. Swimming pool is quite ok, beach pretty small. Hotel staff is friendly, helpful. I read that rooms were refurbished, but I did not get that feeling. Some furniture seems pretty old and outdated. As said, worth to stay for few days, as price is good and location even better, but nothing more. Needs some improvement.
