“Great Location and Great Price”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

This was my first visit to the Big Island. I read so many great reviews about this hotel and they were all right on point. The Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel has the best location. It at the beginning of the very small Kailua-Kona Strip. Everything is in walking distance.

Parking is only $10/night.

The rooms very modern and clean. Ask for an ocean view or view of the city, because if you chose the Mountain View, all you will see is the parking lot. There was a fridge in the hotel, so we were able to store snacks and drinks.

An ABC store was conveniently located at the hotel.

I will definitely stay at this hotel again if I go back to the Big Island.

Having stayed at this property many many times over the past 20 plus years, I have seen its ups and downs and certainly Marriot has done a stunning job in bringing it into the mainstream of reasonably affordable nicely refurbished properties...
So lets cut to the quick on this...
I would have given it a FIVE in its class but for two things...and if its current owners or managers will tell me they will fix it I will return (as I live in Hilo) and give it the FIVE rating.
The thing that dogged the old King Kam was the plumbing, specifically the baths dont drain so as you shower, the water ascends your ankles which is most unpleasant...in room 208 nothing had changed, the water still backed up helped considerably by an overly generous "water wasting" huge rose shower head which must have pumped out 10gpm.
The next highly fixable thing is power outlets...these days we have all our gadgets to plug in and the outlets on the bedlamps was nice but the only table for laptop etc in the room only had one outlet which you had to crawl under the table to get to, only to find it was all used up by Hotel stuff and the lamp which did NOT have an outlet....the only other reachable outlet in the room was a threefer hidden behind a chair and low to the floor....this combo meant the only place for the nice coffee pot (with chipped beak) was by the beds !!
A tasteful looking power strip stuck to the top of the table would solve all these problems.
The room was nicely prepared with all the currently required abundance of pillows and bed accessories, there were a dozen hangars in the closet (bravo) ironing board, iron, fridge AND the room had reasonably efficient WIFI....there was bottled water in the fridge a nice touch as the tap water in Kona is completely undrinkable by any standard.

Room Tip: Ask to be assured the bath drains...!!

My family and I (husband & two boys aged 10&7) stayed here during the Hawaiian Ironman triathlon. It was the best location for watching the race. The rooms had good air conditioning, which is vital because of how hot it is in Kona. There was a fridge in the room which was able to be stocked with snacks & drinks from the ABC convenience store downstairs in the lobby. This is such a financial convenience because it allowed me to have snacks available for my children who are always wanting to eat, without having to blow out the bank account! The staff were very friendly & efficient. The hotel facilities were outstanding. Free wifi in the room was exceptional, especially when trying to maintain the family business whilst on holidays. The gym was well equipped and the pool was clean. The location of the hotel next to the beach was also excellent because it allowed us to move between the pool and beach all day. The kids loved hiring a stand up paddle board right outside the hotel. It is close to local shops & restaurants. Overall a great location.

Stayed just over a week over the Christmas holidays, and everything went well. The basics (clean room, cheerful, courteous staff) were excellent, and the location at one end of the commercial area was good. The ground floor had been redone, but there were a lot of empty spaces. The convenience store was also handy and well stocked.

Stayed here in October for 4 nights. The room was very modern and the staff were very helpful. Free wifi in our room was also a big plus. The location fantastic, right on the ocean and near all the restaurants and bars. Would deffo stay here again. Be warned in Kona, all the bars wind down at 10pm, there was nowhere with any atmosphere after this time, all the live music stops at 9:30. If Kona wants to keep attracting tourists, they need to keep the night going a bit later, it's not only people over 50 who goes there.

This hotel is perfectly located in Kona within walking distance to many restaurants. The staff was friendly upon check-in and the check-in process went very smooth. Our room was very clean and we had no issues at all during our 6 day stay. The room comes equipped with a mini fridge and safe.

The pool area was very nice and clean with an added bonus of the pool bar. However, one night the hot tub did have noticable dirt in it.

The beach area outside the hotel was very convenient and not overly crowded while we were there. It seemed to be fairly trash free as well.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to the Kona area.

FYI: there is a $10 a night parking fee they add on when you check-in in order to park in the lot right behind the hotel.

We stayed our last night on the Big island here and it was a good stay. The people are very nice, but no late check out here. The restaurant banquet I thought was good and excellent view of the beach. Right in the middle of the shopping, cruise boat arrivals, etc. Not really my kind of place but it was just fine if that is what you want.

Room Tip: I chose the full oceanfront - I would just stay in whatever room and enjoy the pool & beach for...
