Silver Oaks Ranch
Reviewed October 1, 2009

We arrived in the evening and were met by both of our hosts, Rick and Amy. Right from the start we knew that we would be having a wonderful time at the ranch. We were made to feel at home, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Rick showed us to our room, and gave us the option of choosing one of the larger suites since they had no other guests scheduled for our week. Our original room, the cottage, was very inviting, but we wanted to see what the others looked like. We decided to upgrade to one of the larger suites, and really enjoyed the additional space, even though there was only the two of us. The suite had ALL the imenities of home. Full size fridge, stove, mini dish washer. The fridge was stocked with a great assortment of breakfast foods...eggs, butter, bagels, Hawaiian sweet bread, creme cheese, milk, juice. The great room had the TV and computer with web access. In the bedroom was a cushy king size bed, all the towels you could want, and plenty of space to put your belongings. The bath had a copius amount of space and a jacuzzi tub.
Outside was the critters. We were introduced to the goats, chickens, wild turkeys, pheasants, doves, and to our two most special friend s"Donkey", and Gigi. The view from the ranch is spectacular, and the weather is great. Low to mid 80's during the day, and mid 60's by night, which made for great sleeping.
Rick is great for information on where to go and how to get there. He gave us good reccomendations for things to do and places to eat( you have to go to Quinns!).
We have stayed in many B&B's across the country, and this one rates right up there at the top! The Deckers run a first rate B&B and if going to the "Big Island" I wouldn't stay anywhere else!!

We stayed in the Ranch House Cottage. It was spacious and had every ammenity one could ask for - even a laptop for our use! The Ranch is secluded and quiet and yet only ten minutes from town, making it an ideal getaway. The view from the patio was spectacular, overlooking the Kona Coast, The Cottage was well supplied with all the basics we needed for breakfasts and then some, including fresh bananas right from the garden. Owners, Rick & Amy Decker, were very attentive without being obtrusive. They shared all kinds of tips with us for local sightseeing and restaurants. We cannot recommend Silver Oaks Ranch too highly - it is one of the best values we've ever encountered on our many travels.

Just spent 5 nites at Silver Oaks Ranch in the "Ranch House" unit. This property is a nice compromise between a traditional B&B and a Condo. More space and privacy than a
B&B. Not quite as big as a Condo but outfitted as well, if not better, than most Condos we have rented. There is a Fridge, Stove, Microwave, dishwasher, blender, toaster, coffeepot, etc. No daily breakfast but they set you up with enough goodies to last along time. In our case all 5 days (which is the minimum stay). They had milk, Cereal, OJ, eggs, a loaf of sweetbread, a small amount of butter, cream cheese, jam, 2 bagels, 2 yogurts, a basket of fresh fruit, a box of mac nut chocolates, a can of salted mac nuts and some coffee and tea. The kitchen had papertowels, dishsoap, and dishwasher soap. The living room area had a TV with a DVD player and a computer with internet access. In a common area they had a washer and dryer (with soap and dryer sheets). They have coolers, beach towels, boogie boards, snorkel gear, and a grill available for guests use. The property is at about 1500 feet and was thus a little cool at night in January (no heat) but we are very much looking forward to future visits during the summer when the elevation will bring relief from the heat. We were fine with blankets and closing up the windows at night. Lovely view overlooking Kona from our large veranda which had a table and chairs, a lounge chair, a swing bench and a hot tub. Very comfy bed in bedroom. Lots of drawer and closet space. Hosts Rick and Amy were very personable. They have tried to think of everything. The only thing I missed was a hair dryer in the bathroom. We definately look forward to a future visit!

We just got back from a 9-night stay at the Silver Oaks Ranch. WOW! This is the best place to stay on the Big Island. What a beautiful spot!! Rick and Amy are such incredible hosts. They were so helpful and SO nice. The Ranch House unit was perfect for us. We really loved sitting on the lanai and enjoyed the great views. Amy's farm animals (the goats, miniature donkey, horse, sheep, chickens, wild turkeys, and, of course, Gigi the cat) were awesome. Rick, an amazing photographer, showed us a great spot where we could take pictures of HUGE waves that were absolutely spectacular. OMG!!! The kitchen was stocked with lots of breakfast items (including milk, juice, yogurt, eggs, granola, bread, butter, coffee, etc.), fresh fruit, macadamia nuts, cookies, etc. The common area had all the gear you need for snorkeling. There were beach chairs and coolers, etc. I could go on and on about how great Amy and Rick are and how wonderful the ranch is..... I would HIGHLY recommend it!! We can't wait to go back.

We had the pleasure of staying at Silver Oaks during the second week of our two week Hawaiian honeymoon this past October. It is a fabulous place to stay. We knew we wanted to be on the Kona side of the Big Island and Silver Oaks turned out to be perfect for us. We found that it was pretty convenient to most of the places we wanted to go.

During our stay at Silver Oaks, we had our own little condo with a porch (with a marvelous view of Kailua-Kona) and a hot tub! Amy and Rick Decker, the owners, are terrific. They had great suggestions for day trips and sights to see and for area restaurants to try. They made us feel so at home - even stocking our condo with essentials - including a delicious mac nut cinnamon bread that we ended up ordering in bulk when we got home to Boston!

Even though Kona wasn't the last leg of our trip (we had a 1 day stop in Honolulu on the way home) we were so sad to leave Silver Oaks. We would most definitely stay there again.

Up the mountain from the hustle of Kona is beautiful Silver Oaks Ranch. Rick and Amy Decker have a wonderful property for a Big Island getaway. Our unit had everything to insure a great stay. Our hosts gave us great advice on restaurants, and snorkelling and hiking spots. Thanks Rick and Amy. We'll be back.

We were looking for a place to relax between touring and diving, and this is certainly the place! Gracious hosts Amy and Rick Decker made sure we were well oriented, presented us with a gift basket of fruits, mac nuts, food and eggs in the fridge. The garage held washer, dryer, library, games, snorkeling and beach stuff, courtesy bottles of water, you name it. Behind the cottages, a remote bath, sink and sheltered dive gear hanging spot. In the unit, WiFi and phones - even a laptop should you need one.

We stayed in the Ranch House unit, with spacious bedroom, walk-in closet, bath, full kitchen with appliances, cook- and dinnerware, dining nook, living room and lanai with hot tub and fantastic Pacific Ocean views stretching away 1,500 feet below us - goat corral directly in front. You will certainly not miss staying in a hotel here! Only a short drive to Kailua-Kona, or the Honokohau boat harbor, shopping and the rest, yet quiet, relaxing and very much like home.

The do require 50% up front, remainder on arrival, refundable with 30 day cancellation notice minus USD $30 fee.
