“Home away from home”

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights as part of our round the world stopover in Hawaii and can thoroughly recommend Honu Kai BnB.

Wendi's years of experience of hospitality in private aviation really show, and we were treated just like the movie stars she has cared for. Dave is working tirelessly to upgarde the property even further from its already high standard.

Little touches like snorkelling kit, beach towels, or beach chairs on loan, an honesty bar etc all add to the experience. Overall the atmosphere is very convivial and laid back. The open lanaii contributes to that atmosphere, but do take care of the mosquitoes and of an evening and cover up with more than just DEET spray particularly if you arent used to the voracious appetite of the little suckers in HI.

Keep up the good work guys. XX

We spent four wonderful nights here. We wish it was longer. Wendi and Dave are so nice; interesting to talk with, interested in their guests' happiness. Wendi knows all kinds of great things to see and do on the island, including sending us to great restaurants. This was the only B&B that returned phone calls promptly. When we booked the room Wendi helped us plan our visit, including the two days on the island before we would check in. Her advice was golden. She would send us out on our day with a cooler with cold water, juice, macadamia treats; clean towels, and snokel gear. The house is decorated beautifully. Our room was spacious, very clean, and the bed was comfy. It was lovely to sit on the lanai, eating a tasty (and enormous) breakfast (Wendi's fresh fruit salad is A-1) looking at the birds in the feeder (and incredibly cute geckos). The other guests were nice too; perhaps its true that birds of a feather flock together! This is a gem, great location too; and we recomend this B & B highly. We spent our last evening with Wendi and Dave just talking about life; it was that relaxing and friendly.

  • Liked — Breakfast on the lanai; just plain great.
  • Disliked — The mosquitos also had us for breakfast if we didn't use bug spray.

We absolutely loved our stay at Honu Kai! This is the place to stay if you are in Big Island and if you are ready for the ultimate Hawaiian experience. Do not stay here if you are not ready to indulge in the atmosphere and the Aloha of the place! Wendi and David were really great with us and Wendi helped with all the planning of our day trips. She gave us great tips, maps and directions to make the best out of our time.

One thing that comes to your mind after you have spend 1 sec with them is that anyone can run a B&B but the difference is made when someone does the extra mile for you. And they certainly do that for their guests. You feel like home from the moment you enter the house.

We highly recommend this B&B for your vacations!

We absolutely loved our stay at Honu Kai! The owners Wendi and Dave are AWESOME and have the best stories to tell. Wendi helped us plan everything and even packed us a little snack for our snorkeling trip. =) We stayed in the Nigiri room, which was beautifully decorated. There is a cute, small coy pond right outside that room, which makes a soothing sound at night. Breakfast was delicious every morning- Dave is an excellent chef! I am now a fan of Loco Moco...mmm! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice, relaxing, comfortable place to stay in Kona!

Staying at Honu Kai was the perfect ending to our Hawaiian vacation - our only regret was that our time there was too short. Wendi and Dave really know the meaning of aloha, and were the most gracious hosts. We were especially lucky to get to spend our time in the newly remodeled bungalow, which easily accommodated our additional family members who were able to join us at the last minute. We were all impressed with the beauty of the property as well as the wonderful breakfasts that were offered. If you stay, try to get Dave to make his loco moco - this will set you up for the day and give you something to think about when you get home! This is a "don't miss" accommodation - the Big Island is lucky to have Wendi and Dave and Honu Kai!

  • Liked — the casual elegance and serenity of the property
  • Disliked — that we couldn't stay longer!
