We went to almost every beach on the entire Big Island. This beach had something for everyone in our group: easy water access without rocks, great snorkeling, boogeyboarding was decent too. (One day had pretty strong waves from after the hurricane, so be careful.) Great for the kids and adults!

We love to come here. There are sandy and grassy areas to lounge around in. There is also a restroom and shower on the way in and out to the parking lot.

BUT- there are 2 things you need to know about this beach.

1st- this sits on the shore behind residential and resort properties. You will need to get there early (especially in the summer) as there are only 30 parking spots and you need to stop at the guard shack to get one of the 30 passes.
There is a sidewalk that will take you from the parking lot to the beach area.

2nd- this is NOT a great swimming beach. The pictures are deceiving that you see on line. This beach is good for snorkeling, diving and kayaking. There are rocks and coral as soon as you step in the water, so be sure to bring your water shoes! If you want a swimming and boogie board beach, go to Hapuna a few miles north, past Waikoloa Beach Resort.

This definitely is a beautiful beach and has wonderful views, clean sand, green up-kept grassy area. We go snorkeling here and just sit and watch the sunset- which is awesome!

We visited a handful of top 25 beaches on our trip and thought this one had the most beautiful scenery. The beach is enclosed by rocks, with white sand and crystal clear aquamarine water. Only drawback was that the beach is not large so it was more crowded than some of the others. Regardless, the beach is a must see for an hour or two.

Great beach, with very nice blue waters. There are two small hills that are an easy 10 min hike that give a great view of the Kua Bay. There are also rocks in the water which are perfect for jumping off (10ft). This is a popular beach though, so if remote is your thing you may not like Kua as much

Kua Bay is about as beautiful as it gets. Stark white sand, several different colors of blue water, all in contrast with the pungent black rocks that line the beach and poke out from the water. Gates usually open at 9, but this place fills up fast. Many people end up parking along the roadway. The snorkeling can be pretty interesting on the north end but you have to get there early for the water to still be calm enough, otherwise the seas pick up and the water gets very cloudy and many times too tough to swim or snorkel against. Turtles frequent the rocks in the center of the beach area. Boogie boarding and skim boarding can be big here (they can also be entertaining to watch). The sand can blow strong sometimes, definitely bring a chair to raise you off the ground. Sand is also incredibly soft. Because it does get busy, I have two tips for you; sit close to the water (be careful not to let it sweep your stuff out to sea) so that people walk behind you instead of in front of you and sit far to the left or the right. I prefer the right, but don't take my spot!
