If looking for a great luau on the Big Island of Hawai'i go to the one at the Royal Kona Resort. The food was really good, kalua pig cook in an imu then uncovered while we were standing around fire pit. After eating, we were entertained by such talented dancers. Performances representing many pacific islands were great. Of course, the fire dance was performed at the end of the evening.

Purchased our tickets through Expedia at our resort which provided preferred seating.

What a great luau we went to. Authentic food - authentic music and dance = fun night.
We had never attended a luau before so we had no idea what to expect .. We all had smiles on our faces the entire night.
The dances that they do are amazing ... So beautiful so symbolic ... An experience that we will always remember !!

We had a great time! Nice open bar with good selection. Dinner was buffet with enough selection for all...We loved the pork that was cooked underground and was neat to watch them bring it up...my partner was adventurous and tried everything and he loved it all! The show was well presented and great dancers....interaction with audience was great, everyone was having a fun time. I got to purchase a hand carved wooden mask from a local vendor that was setup. And, they take your picture for a souvenir for a $20. fee if you would like it, we get few pictures of us together on vacations so we opted to buy. We felt the evening was worth the cost and would recommend to all family members....as they even had the little ones on the stage dancing!

We were incredibly disappointed with the Royal Kona Hotel.

Our first partial ocean view room smelled so bad we asked to be moved. The room was very dark and basic. The new room wasn't much better however we had upgraded to an ocean view which was very scenic.

The room is in desperate need of a rehab. The bathroom tile is crumbling, the bed was uncomfortable, the tub was stained and looked dirty, the shower walls were coming apart, the furniture was out dated, the patio furniture was so Walmarty (cheap).

The pool was small and cute, the views were spectacular, the grounds in general were nice but not great.

Do not eat breakfast at the hotel buffet, the coffee was bitter, the food was cold and bland. I recommend Java Lava and Bongo Bennies for breakfast.

This is not an intimate experience! We visited during Christmas vacation, and so did 400 other people the night we were there.

The show is really good and lasts just long enough to keep your interest. We were at the luau for over 3 hours, and the only time we were bored was when we were in line to get in.

The food is OK. Remember they are serving 400 people, so it is a fast moving buffet. There is plenty to pick from, but none of it was superb.

The drinks were free, but only before the show. We found that you could get 2 at a time, and we made sure we did that. Otherwise you might as well get in line right after you got your first drink. Bartender was ready and willing to "top off" the mai tai, they make it a little weak so if you like it stronger be sure to get an extra shot (or two).

We were shocked at the price, but when you are in Hawaii you have to go to a luau. After going we considered the price to be appropriate.

Get your tickets online and you may get a discount - our tickets were $65 because of this.
