We just returned from another amazing adventure with Sea Quest Snorkel Tours! I have taken this tour at least 6 times at different times of the year and each time I learn something new and see something new. Captain Liam is so engaging and fun. I have taken many groups on this tour and each time it has been a blast!! This time we saw at least 50 spinner dolphins in 2 locations. I finally convinced my husband to come along this time and even though he is not a big snorkel guy, he loved it too. Our friends from Newtown Connecticut had a great time as well. Sea Quest is very accomodating to all ages and the trip is always great! This is one of my most favorite things to do on the Big Island! Just do it!

One may take the four hour two stop snorkel trip or the five hour three snorkel stop trip, both are worth the time and money. The four hour and the five hour both depart from Keauhou Bay around 8:30 am most week days. This is just south of Kailua Kona. Both stop for 45 minute snorkel dives at The City of Refuge also known as PU'UHONUA at HONAUNAU Bay and Captain Cook's resting place at KEALAKEKUA Bay. The City of Refuge has great coral, lots of tropical fish and usually you see turtles swimming around you. The Captain Cook Bay is deeper, a little colder but the amount of different species of fish and coral is the best on the island. The only way to reach this spot is by signing up for a trip there. They just resumed kayaking to this spot a couple weeks ago also. You must sign up and go with an authorized tour operator if you want to kayak. This was instituted to maintain the quality of the coral reef.
The five hour trip takes you to another snorkeling spot that is determined that day depending on the surf conditions.
The main reason one should choose Sea Quest for your trip is because the trip includes close-up viewing of the various sea caves and lava tubes that dot the sea coast on this side of the island. The boats are small enough that they take you right into some of the caves. One cannot experience this on the catamaran trips. Our Captain Steve and his first mate Rich were especially helpful and very knowledgeable of the formations, terrain, and history of the area. They provide you with all the snorkeling gear you need to enjoy this experience, and provide refreshments too. The boats usually hold 6-12 people which allows for more viewing and interaction with your surroundings. My wife and I always take this trip when other couples join us on our trips to this island because we know they will enjoy it as much as we do. Give it a try I'm sure this will be one of your highlights from the Big Island also.

As many others have written, this is really a great trip. Cap'n Joe and Seaman Eric were friendly, informative and relaxed. The small group experience and amazing snorkeling (perhaps the fish more so than the coral) made it a great time as did seeing dolphins. Highly recommended!

What a great trip - crew were very helpful, dolphins, turtles, sharks and heaps of colourful fish. Would recommend this snorkeling trip - morning tour was great as it was done before the heat of the day.

We set out in this small rubber motor boat with 14 guests and two crew. Seating is on the rim of the boat. Soft but no back support. You need to hold on! Once on the ocean the ride was bumpy but dry. Two stops to snorkel, Light snack food. Drive right into the caves. Dolphins following us. Our crew of Liam and Rich were perfect tour guides. What a great ocean tour! The perfect blend of pleasure and excitement.
