A tucked away gem up on the slope of Mt. Hualalai, a short drive from Kailua-kona. Parking is a little difficult, but you can walk around the town looking at local artists at work. Check out Studio 7...very interesting artwork and pottery designs.

“Interesting little artist village to day trip.”

Several interesting shops and galleries. We especially like to go in to the Dovetail Gallery. They have some of the highest quality artwork in the Kona area. Good cafe for lunch or dinner.

“A disappointing visit”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

Went there on a Sunday at 11 a.m....looked like a ghost town except for some attending the church and others sitting outside a cafe. Did not look at all like what we had imagined. Parked in a 'lot' just past the school. Then walked up the hill but all galleries were closed. We went by the information put out by the Village Association and it did not mention opening hours. We did not see any other tourists around so just walked back to our car and left. Maybe the few galleries do have some good products but we will just return to Kailua Kona area where there are many interesting places to browse through. Hope other travelers will have more success.

“fine dining & browsing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2013

The outdoor restaurant serves fresh-daily foods and the menu depends on what the farmers are offering that morning. The food was absolutely wonderful and the atmosphere unmatched. Not all of the galleries are open every day, and many close early; but it is still worth the visit to see what Hawai'i looked like 100 years ago. Shopkeepers were extremely friendly and were happy to tell us about their craft.

“Nice Village”

If you don't have time to drive to Hawi, Holualoa is just as nice with some nice antique and artsy type stores.
