The art was amazing. We ended up buying a beautiful amber ring , necklace and a few keepsake items. It was a nice short trip up the mountain from Kailua. Don't get sticker shocked like us. Some of the art is very expensive. Watch out if you have younger kids. Even if you don't buy the p;ricer art alot of shops had reasonable items as well. Get there by 10am the shops close early like 2pm or so.

We drove up the mountain to Holualoa Village (Artists' Village) and loved it. We went on a Thursday and most of the shops, with a couple of exceptions were open. Those that weren't, were by appointment only. We loved the galleries. We have an appreciation for artists and the work that they create and we were not disappointed. Take your time to stroll through each gallery to see what some of the local artists have created. We purchased a number of items that are unique. A few of the shops themselves are artistic in and of themselves. The drive up to the Village and continuing south is gorgeous - through coffee plantations - lush and green. We stopped at a restaurant called, The Strawberry Patch, which to date, on our trip, had the best food we have tasted on our trip- delicious soup, salads and pizza. We then stopped at Greenwell Coffee Plantation for a tour and bought some of the Portuguese Bread that had just been baked that morning (only on Thursday) in the outdoor oven. A great day trip.

Very small, historical town with a few art shops. We enjoyed walking through the town and seeing another part of the Big Island.

We were expecting a row of shops and galleries and we got maybe three that were open on a Saturday. No one in our group bought anything. The only place that seemed to be hopping in this area was the Post Office.
