I have just returned from an 11 day vacation on the Kona-Kohala Coast. During my stay I had booked the Sand, Surf & Stars Buffet at this restaurant on the Four Seasons Property. I must admit the hotel was beautiful. It had breath-taking views & was just as you would imagine or expect to see on any postcard. The reason I say we were disappointed is we may have been expecting too much. Coming from Dallas & having access to some wonderful restaurants, I was sure this restaurant being one of the Four Seasons we were going to be in for a treat. What we found was this. We had the worst Mojito ever. It was more like a medicinal elixir of some sort. Not pleasant to drink at all. We sort of shrugged that one off thinking maybe the bartender had left out the cane sugar or something. We then proceeded to venture to the shellfish station which had mounds of boiled shrimp & crab claws. Sounds appetizing, right? Wrong.....you could smell the shellfish long before making it to the actual station. It was also swarming with flies. I realize the function is being held outside, but come-on......could they not put a fan on the food or have a person fanning a banana leaf to prevent the flies from eating it before the guests do? Had it not been for the scenic view I would suggest skipping this one, but as long as you are not going to expect perfection for a $200 dinner for 2, then you will be fine. ALOHA!!!
