Executive Sous Chef Nick Mastrascusa has created one of the most unique, great culinary experiences "Inside the Kitchen" at the Four Season Resort BeachTree restaurant. Chef has designed a hand crafted wooden counter for guests to sit and enjoy their evening while watching the restaurant in action. Nothing is planned. It's up to the guest. Chef Nick will take you on a culinary tour of whatever destination you decide or just create the meal of your dreams. My husband and I love Italian food, so Chef started with appetizers found in Sicily and took us north to Tuscany, with many stops in between. So many courses that we finally has to say "enough." We couldn't eat another bite, but Chef was prepared to create more than a dozen courses.

We started the evening learning how to "saber" a bottle of champagne and, with champagne in hand, took a tour of the restaurant kitchen and met all the chefs. Then we sat down and enjoyed wine paired countless courses, with Chef sharing not only the cuisine, but the history and culture of our destination. If you are a foodie or just want a unique dining experience, the Chef's Counter is unlike anything you have ever experienced.

On a trip to the Big Island, we stumbled across an article in a magazine in our hotel room about the chef's counter that is available at the Beach Tree. We were lucky to be able to book this, and it was amazing! Chef Angela spoke with us on the phone in advance and planned a menu special for us, taking into account our favourite foods, allergies and dislikes. Every course was delicious, and it was such a great experience to be inside the heart of a very busy kitchen. The staff was genuinely happy to host us in the kitchen, and we thoroughly enjoyed watching the activity. We started the evening by sabering a bottle of Prosecco and were able to make our own pasta course. I cannot wait to return to the Beach Tree, and would love to experience another memorable evening inside the kitchen. Each course had wine pairings, and we were even able to take home a special bottle of olive oil, custom made for the Beach Tree.

We live on the Big Island and took our daughters to Beach Tree for lunch before their flight back to the mainland. Ordered at noon, didn't get the food out until shortly after 1pm. Four of the five of us ordered a salad (how hard can that be?). "Super" salad, supposed to be kale with a Dijon mustard vinegarette. Bit of kale, mostly spinach and leaf lettuce and the dressing tasted watered down (maybe the greens were too wet?). Not a particularly good salad at any price and it was $21! Also ordered an iced green tea that was supposed to contain three fruits, pineapple, lilikoi and mango. Just tasted like plain green tea and it was $12. My husband's yellow tomato gazpacho was very good and his chicken was good, though small. On the positive side, they did discount our bill for the long wait, however, at any price it was not an enjoyable lunch or experience. We had about 5 minutes to eat when the food finally came in order for our daughters to comfortably make their flight.

We went here for the Taste of Tuscany, a 3 course meal prepared for you on the beach. It was pricey, but was a little cheaper than going to a Luau. The food was excellent, service prompt and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere just wonderful. The restaurant is just steps from the beach, and was complimented with a beautiful sunset, as the meal began. I would recommend this highly to anyone who wants a special night out, in a wonderful setting.

Had lunch here a few times during my stay at this resort. The Super Salad with Tuna was a definite favourite. Service was very good and the position beside the beach really added to the relaxed atmosphere.
